Shiloh — Album 1

· Shiloh (with Ken Bradbury)

Shiloh was a Christian music group that Ken Bradbury played in. This recording — the first of his Shiloh albums to be catalogued in the Foundation archive — is a set of fifteen gospel songs, about seventy-seven minutes of music ranging from quiet hymns of refuge to story-songs and a bit of gospel comedy.

The album reached the archive as a sequence of audio tracks without a stored title or song list, so for now it is simply "Album 1," and the songs are listed in their recorded order. The titles above are working identifications drawn from each track's opening lyrics; several are well-known gospel numbers (the Psalm 46 setting "Be Still and Know," the shepherd story-song "Bobby Malone," and the tender "Grandma's Song"), while others await confirmation. As more of Ken's Shiloh recordings are gathered, this catalogue will be filled in.

About the songs

A few threads run through the record. Several tracks retell the Christmas story (Track 2's "shepherds were tending their sheep at night" and Track 6's "a baby boy was born"). Others are songs of reassurance — Track 5's recurring "God is faithful," Track 8's "God is our refuge and He is our strength," and Track 15's "Father, I'm glad I can pray to You." Track 9 tells the parable of old Bobby Malone, the shepherd who "danced with no one around him," and Track 7 is the familiar "Grandma's Song," with its hot oatmeal cookies and "have you washed behind your ears." Track 10 is a lighter moment — a spoken-and-sung gospel comedy bit about "the only cat-dancing flea in gospel music history."

The full transcribed lyrics of each track are kept with the recording in the archive to aid in identifying the songs.
