David and God III, 1
DAVID: Hey, Lord!
GOD: David…good to see you, buddy.
DAVID: This is sort of new for me. …being up here like this. I’m not sure how I got here.
GOD: I picked you.
DAVID: Really?
GOD: I run this place. I can do that.
DAVID: Cool. But…I mean…why me? I look out there and there are so many good speakers…people who’ve been on stage.
GOD: Yes. Yes, there are.
DAVID: So…I mean why….why me?
GOD: You love me.
DAVID: That’s it?
GOD: That’s all I need. …just someone who loves me.
DAVID: But . . . well. If you say so.
GOD: (laughs) You remind me of another guy.
DAVID: Who?
GOD: David.
DAVID: I’m David.
GOD: So was he. He didn’t think he had any talent, didn’t consider himself a leader. .. all he did was love me with his entire heart.
DAVID: What happened to him?
GOD: I made him king.
DAVID: (a beat, then) Wow.
GOD: You’re standing there looking at lots of people who are afraid they don’t have enough talent….don’t have the right stuff to perform. . . who think they aren’t good enough.
DAVID: Yeah. And I guess that would be me, too.
GOD: That’s David…just like David.
DAVID: So…this weekend. . . . I mean….what do you want me to do?
GOD: Love me.
DAVID: That’s it?
GOD: That’s enough.
DAVID: I don’t know if I like this title, Lord. I don’t think I can handle any giants.
GOD: You only have one Goliath, David.
DAVID: ….and…that is?
GOD: Your fears. Look in your pocket.
DAVID: Huh?
GOD: Reach into your pocket.
DAVID: (reach into your pocket…pull out a rock and hold it up…make sure it’s big enough to be seen) A rock? How’d you do that?
GOD: I’m God. I’ve got all the moves. So….you ready?
DAVID: For what?
GOD: I didn’t ask that. You ready?
DAVID: (look at the rock, puts it into your pocket, smile) Yeah. (a beat, then) Yeah, I’m ready.
GOD: You got any idea what I’ve got for you this weekend?
DAVID: Not a clue.
GOD: Good. Let’s slay some giants.
DAVID: Cool. (exit)
