David and God III, 3
DAVID: Hey Lord.
GOD: How’s David?
DAVID: Good…..just really good. (a beat, then) You know, it’s funny.
GOD: What’s that?
DAVID: I sat out there last summer and then again this year, watching John and God and I thought…that’s really cool.
GOD: Yeah?
DAVID: But I thought it was …you know…still a performance. I mean, John’s a great guy and he loves you, but I’m here holding a microphone and the lights are on….
GOD: And you thought it was still a little bit of an act.
DAVID: Yeah. But when I get up here….when I talk to you…it’s real. I wonder if people know that.
GOD: I think you just told them. Still got that rock?
DAVID: (pulls it out) Right here.
GOD: Good. You’ve been carrying it all weekend, right?
DAVID: Yep. I remember it every time I sit the wrong way.
GOD: I love it.
DAVID: It’ll be a great way to remember this weekend.
GOD: There’s lots to remember.
DAVID: Yeah.
GOD: But the times you’ll remember the most, David…and I promise you this…are the times you prayed with someone.
DAVID: Really?
GOD: Ask around…..I’ll show you what I mean.
DAVID: (You ask various counselors …tell them ahead of time…who they’d prayed with this week. If they can they should add where and perhaps what they prayed about. Ask 2 or 3, then end with. . . ) “That’s really cool, Lord.”
GOD: Yeah. It’s the best part of PAC. . . and it’s no act.
DAVID: It’s no act.
GOD: John wasn’t acting and neither are you. One more thing…
DAVID: Yeah?
GOD: Tonight’s going to be a great time to make some more great memories.
DAVID: You mean praying for each other?
GOD: Yeah. Praying for each other… and asking people to pray for you.
DAVID: I like that.
GOD: Then why wait? You mentioned your friend John.
DAVID: Good choice. John, would you come up and pray for me? (John does…standing up there beside you). (then as John returns to his seat, you say…) Hey John?
JOHN: Yeah?
DAVID: Somebody told me to give this to you. (You hand him the rock and you both exit.)
