ELLIE: Hi God. It’s me.
GOD: Great weekend, Ellie.
ELLIE: Yeah. Awesome. How do you keep doing that?
GOD: Lots of practice.
ELLIE: (laughs) I like that.
GOD: So what sticks in your mind? What are you going to remember?
ELLIE: Oh geesh. There’s so many.
GOD: I know. . .just pick out a couple.
ELLIE: Well. . . (then talk about a couple of memorable moments for you from the weekend…a performance, a small group, anything. . .then end with . . . ) . . . It’s all been great.
GOD: Yeah. . . greater than great.
ELLIE: And you know, it’s funny. . . yesterday morning we hardly knew each other and. . .well. . now look at us.
GOD: I am.
ELLIE: (a pause, then) I want to go to the altar tonight.
GOD: I’ll be there waiting.
ELLIE: I don’t even know what I want to pray.
GOD: All I want, Ellie. . . all I want is to talk. Don’t worry about what to say.
ELLIE: Sometimes I’m not good with words.
GOD: It doesn’t matter. I am.
ELLIE: Sometimes I get confused.
GOD: Everybody does.
ELLIE: And it’s like I go back and forth. . . I want to stay close to you then sometimes I get so far away and I. . .
GOD: Ellie.
ELLIE: (a beat, then) Yeah.
GOD: Cool it. It’s not that hard. .
ELISABETH AND JOHN: (singing) Dear God, I’m not sure how to pray I don’t know what I’m doing Or what to say But I’m lost, And I’m scared and confused I don’t know where to go Or what to do I’m right here And I’m willing to try To stumble through this prayer I’m looking inside Oh I’m trying… to find They said, that I’d know what to say But I’m not good with words I hope that that’s okay So I’ll talk, I’ll fall to my knees I’ve done so much wrong do you still see me As the girl, Who prayed every night Believed with all she had Until she lost sight… But now I’m trying, to find, to find, to find I just wanna believe like I used to I’m right here Trying to find my way back to You’re doing fine Who I used to be before You’re not alone I just wanna believe like I used to I’ll help you find Wanna believe like I used to Wanna find my way Your way Help me find my way I’ll help you find your way Back home
ELLIE: Thanks, Lord.
GOD: See you at the altar?
ELLIE: Yes. . . I can’t wait. (Ellie exits)
