Ellie & God, 3, 2.
Cue your “fear” respondents ahead of time and line up the scripture readers. ELLIE: Hey God.
GOD: Hi girl.
ELLIE: I’ve been trying to do it.
GOD: What’s that?
ELLIE: Be myself.
GOD: Good for you.
ELLIE: It’s kinda hard.
GOD: That’s because you’re out of practice.
ELLIE: I guess I’m still afraid that if people knew what I was really like then they wouldn’t like me.
GOD: Yeah. I mean, you’re totally wrong, but a lot of people think that way. What are you afraid they’ll find out?
ELLIE:. . I guess I don’t want them to know what I’m afraid of. It’s like it would make me look weak.
GOD: Know what? The strongest people you and I know . . . some of your most loving friends. . they have fears, too.
ELLIE: Really?
GOD: Sure. Just ask around.
ELLIE: Now?
GOD: Why? Is there some place you need to go?
ELLIE: No. Sorry…okay…Uh. . . _______________, what are you afraid of? What do you worry about? (they answer) (then) _______________, what are you afraid of? (they answer) Thanks.
GOD: One more.
ELLIE: Okay. . ____________, is there anything you fear? (they answer, then) Thanks.
GOD: Get the feeling you’re not alone?
ELLIE: Yeah. . . yeah, I really do.
GOD: But you know what? One thing you’ll never have to fear is being Ellie. Because that’s who I made. Do you mind if I’m harsh again?
ELLIE: (a beat, then) Uh. .. go ahead.
GOD: How dare you be afraid to be what I made you to be? That takes a lot of nerve, girl. Do you trust me or not?
ELLIE: You’re right. That is harsh.
GOD: Sorry. But I don’t lie to my friends. I made Ellie, not the person she pretends to be. You want proof? Listen to what some of my friends have to say.

ELLIE: And I’m . . .
GOD: You’re my awesome child.
ELLIE: I like that.
GOD: There are two Ellie’s…the one I made and the one you’re trying to redecorate. Tell girl number two to take a hike, okay? She just gets in the way.
ELLIE: You really think I can do this?
GOD: No.
ELLIE: Huh?
GOD: But we can. (Ellie exits)
