Ellie & God, 4, 2.
Cue John, Scott and Maddy ahead of time. I will have sent them emails, but remind them.
ELLIE: God?
GOD: Hey girl. How’s your weekend?
ELLIE: Fantastic.
GOD: Good. It’s been great talking to you these last two days.
ELLIE: I know. It’s like I’ve got more energy.
GOD: That happens.
ELLIE: And I’ve been doing some thinking.
GOD: Good.
ELLIE: What we talked about . . . taking care of our friendships?
GOD: Yeah.
ELLIE: I’ve been thinking about that and my other friends, too.
GOD: Good. I was hoping that would happen.
ELLIE: Friendship takes some work.
GOD: But it’s worth it.
ELLIE: Yeah. . . totally. I guess I’ve got some friends who only like me when they get bored.
GOD: That happens.
ELLIE: And sometimes I only go to people when I need something.
GOD: Glad you can see that. Some people get smarter about this when they get older, Ellie. Some do. . . and. . . some never do. You want to know the secret?
ELLIE: Sure.
GOD: Put me in the middle.
ELLIE: Do what?
GOD: Put me in the middle of your friendship with someone else. It’s like. . .well. . . it’s like cement. Ask John.
ELLIE: John? Ask him what?
GOD: Ask John about a friendship he has with me at the center.
ELLIE: Uh. . . okay. John? Do you know what God’s talking about?
JOHN: (talks about a good Christian friendship of his, preferably with someone we might know)
GOD: (when John’s finished) See what I mean? Now ask Scott.
ELLIE: Okay. Scott?
SCOTT: (follows John’s pattern)
GOD: See what’s happening? It’s so much easier to keep a friendship going if you both love the same thing with all your heart. One more. . . try Maddy.
ELLIE: Maddy
MADDY: (follows the pattern)
ELLIE: That’s so good to hear. Because from what we talked about earlier. . . about how to keep good friends. . . well, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to do it.
GOD: It’s almost impossible . . . but with me. . .
ELLIE: . . . with God, all things are possible.
GOD: Hold on a minute. I want to write that down.
ELLIE: (laughs, a beat, then) Thanks, Lord. I’m learning a lot.
GOD: You’re a smart girl.
ELLIE: Let’s to this again.
GOD: How about . . . forever?
ELLIE: You got it . . . friend. (Ellie exits)
