Ellie & God, 4, 3
ELLIE: God?
GOD: Right here.
ELLIE: I was just thinking.
GOD: About what?
ELLIE: The times I’ve come up here to the altar at the end of camp. I think I remember every one of them.
GOD: So do I.
ELLIE: . . . and I’ve come to the altar for lots of reasons, but one thing has always been the same.
GOD: What’s that?
ELLIE: The cross. I can remember my first year here . . . looking up at the cross with the light on it. Sometimes I was confused, and sometimes I was smiling, and sometimes I had tears in my eyes, but that cross . . . it’s like it took all my confusion away.
GOD: And that. . . that is why I gave you the cross. . . to take away the confusion. . . to make everything very, very simple. . . . My son died there. Did you know that?
ELLIE: Yes.
GOD: And because He died there, you can go to heaven and live forever.
ELLIE: That is so awesome.
GOD: All you have to do is believe.
ELLIE: That’s it.
GOD: That’s it. So simple. . . believe, ask forgiveness, then ask Jesus to be with you forever.
ELLIE: But how could. . . I mean, why did You do such a wonderful thing for me? . . .and such a horrible thing to Your son?
GOD: Otherwise, Ellie. . .otherwise you would have never believed me. It took something big. . . my sacrifice. . . for you.
ELLIE: Because. . .
GOD: Because that’s just how much I love you. That’s what friends do for each other.
ELLIE: But how could . . ?
GOD: Listen. Just listen to the words Elisabeth and John wrote . . . for you.
ELISABETH AND JOHN: Dear God, I’m not sure how to pray I don’t know what I’m doing Or what to say But I’m lost, And I’m scared and confused I don’t know where to go Or what to do I’m right here And I’m willing to try To stumble through this prayer I’m looking inside Oh I’m trying… to find They said, that I’d know what to say But I’m not good with words I hope that that’s okay So I’ll talk, I’ll fall to my knees I’ve done so much wrong do you still see me As the girl, Who prayed every night Believed with all she had Until she lost sight… But now I’m trying, to find, to find, to find I just wanna believe like I used to I’m right here Trying to find my way back to You’re doing fine Who I used to be before You’re not alone I just wanna believe like I used to I’ll help you find Wanna believe like I used to Wanna find my way Your way Help me find my way I’ll help you find your way Back home
(as John’s music continues under) ELLIE: Father, I can’t thank you enough. GOD: Just stay close because. . ELLIE: . . .because that’s what friend do. GOD: That’s what friends do.
