ELLIE: God?
GOD: Ellie! Good to see you!
ELLIE: You don’t know how good it is to be back.
GOD: Actually, I do, but yeah, I know what you mean. So. . . how’s it going so far?
ELLIE: Fantastic. And I’ve been taking some awesome pictures.
GOD: Really?
ELLIE: (pulling out a cell phone) Here I am hauling in ___________’s luggage this morning. And here we are eating lunch. . . .and here’s one where I’m in the Drama Den.
GOD: All selfies?
ELLIE: Well. . . yeah, mostly. But some of them are blurred. I need to get a selfie stick.
GOD: Funny word, isn’t it? Selfie?
ELLIE: Yeah, I guess it is.
GOD: You ever wonder why that is?
ELLIE: What?
GOD: Why we’re so big on our self? Why we always turn the camera toward us?
ELLIE: I guess . . . I guess. . . well, no.
GOD: Wouldn’t it be great, Ellie . . . wouldn’t it be fun if for a couple of days we could turn our attention someplace else?
ELLIE: I see what you mean.
GOD: Instead of posting our pictures about ME with these people and ME at this place. . . sort of weird, don’t you think?
ELLIE: I hope I can do that.
GOD: Oh yeah. Oh yeah, you can do that. Pick out a camper. . . just pick somebody.
ELLIE: Anybody?
GOD: Yep.
ELLIE: Okay. . . (name a camper on the front row) ________________.
GOD: Great. Go on over to them. . . Find out about them. (since you’ll be going away from your script, have some questions in mind. . .talk to them a little bit. Ask them where they’re from, what they’re looking forward to this weekend, if they were excited about coming to camp, what’s been their favorite thing so far, etc…then end by saying “Thanks” and come back to your script.) Nice job.
ELLIE: Thanks.
GOD: And in a couple of minutes you’ve made a friend. Everybody out there is a little bit nervous, everybody wants someone to notice them, each one of them wants people to know about them. Turn your focus around, okay?
ELLIE: You know. . . this sounds really familiar.
GOD: Good. Who does it remind you of?
ELLIE: Jesus.
GOD: Touchdown. Remember those bracelets? “What would Jesus do?”
ELLIE: I’ll bet he wouldn’t do a selfie.
GOD: No. In fact He did an “Ellie.”
ELLIE: It’s gonna be a great weekend, Lord.
GOD: I know. In fact, I planned it that way. Just keep you focus off yourself then click your “God” button.
ELLIE: I get it now. And there are going to be so many. . . .just look at them out there. How am I going to get everybody in?
GOD: Let me be your selfie stick.
