Ellie & God PAC III, 3, 2016

ELLIE: Lord?

God: Hi Ellie.

ELLIE: Want to hear something sort of strange?

God: Sure.

ELLIE: It’s a dream I had. Promise not laugh.

God: (a beat, then) No. . .but go ahead.

ELLIE: Okay. . so I run cross country for JHS.

God: I know. I’ve been to your meets.

ELLIE: So I had this dream that I was running . . and it was really hot and I was getting really tired and everybody was passing me. . .I mean I was like in very last place and I wanted to just drop out, but then you know what happened?

God: Uh…yes…but go ahead.

ELLIE: You came right up beside me.

God: God in a tracksuit.

ELLIE: I don’t remember that part. But you came running right up alongside me and you smiled at me.

God: Yep.

ELLIE: And you told me it didn’t matter what place I finished . . as long as I was running with you.

God: I remember.

ELLIE: Then it wasn’t a dream?

God: Yes, but it was more than a dream.

ELLIE: I wish it was like that all the time, Lord.

God: What’s that?

ELLIE: That all I had to do was look beside me and I’d see your face.

God: You can.

ELLIE: But I mean actually beside me. . even when I leave PAC camp.

God: That’s what I mean.

ELLIE: Huh?

God: Start running, Ellie.

ELLIE: Running?

God: Run. Do you trust me?

ELLIE: Sure.

God: Then run. I want to show you. . when you leave here tonight and you feel like you’re all alone…well, you’re not.

ELLIE: I know that, but. .

God: Run Ellie.

ELLIE: Now?

God: Run.

ELLIE: (you begin running in place) I don’t understand what we’re doing here, Lord.

God: I do. Ellie, when you want to see my face, just look around…look at the people who’ve prayed with you this weekend. (one counselor runs up to beside you and begins running in place beside you. . you contact these people ahead of time… .one by one they come and run beside you…an easy, jogging pace as God keep talking. Tell them what order to come up in so they’ll arrive one by one. ) You don’t have to pray alone.. . you don’t have to be alone. . .You’ll always have someone to talk to . . .people who love you. . people who care about you like I do. . . You’re not a lonely runner any longer, Ellie. You want to see me? Just look around you, Ellie. Just look around you. Those faces. . those people. . .they’re me. . .loving you. Lets’ run, Ellie! Let’s run!

(at the cue “Let’s run!” the running stops)

ELLIE: (a beat, then) Thanks, Lord. I’m ready.

God: Me too. . . Let’s run! (and all of you run off)
