Ellie and God, PAC III, 2

Cue: Maddy and Scott ahead of time ELLIE: God?

GOD: Hi Ellie. How’s it going?

ELLIE: I’ve got some bad news.

GOD: Talk to me.

ELLIE: She showed up.

GOD: Who did?

ELLIE: The other Ellie.

GOD: What happened?

ELLIE: I was nervous….I met a new girl for the first time during (fill in a time or event) ____________ and she wanted to talk, but instead I did all the talking. I was trying to impress her. It was a little thing, but it was dumb.

GOD: That’s okay, Ellie. You’ll get another chance.

ELLIE: I will?

GOD: If you want another chance, I’ll always give you another chance.

ELLIE: That’s so cool, God. . . and it’s hard to understand….how you can forgive me so fast.

GOD: Yep. That’s why they call grace “amazing.”

ELLIE: How can you do that? I mean, why do you do that?

GOD: Well…it’s really pretty simple. What I want ….more than anything… is to be friends with you. And the sooner we make up and clear the slate, the sooner we can get back to talking. . . . to loving each other.

ELLIE: That’s cool. I wish I could do that with my own friends.

GOD: You can.

ELLIE: I’m not so sure.

GOD: Can I be honest?

ELLIE: Sure.

GOD: You’re talking to God, Ellie. If I say you can, you can.

ELLIE: Oh. Sorry.

GOD: (laughs) I love you, girl. But you’ve got to make the first move.

ELLIE: How can I do that?

GOD: It’s on the wall behind you.

ELLIE: (turns to look at the cross, then) The cross?

GOD: Yes. That’s where I began forgiving you… I made the first move.

ELLIE: So if I’m the first to apologize….

GOD: You’re the bravest.

ELLIE: And if I’m the first to forgive…

GOD: You’re the strongest.

ELLIE: And if I’m the first to forget?

GOD: Then Ellie, you’re the happiest. That’s why I forgive you… because I want to be happy…with you.

ELLIE: (a beat, then) I like that.

GOD: Let me give you something to remember.

ELLIE: Good.

GOD: Scott?

SCOTT: Forgive one another. . . Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

GOD: Maddy?

MADDY: Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others

ELLIE: Thanks, Lord.

GOD: And Ellie?

ELLIE: Yeah?

GOD: If that other Ellie shows up?

ELLIE: Yeah?

GOD: Forgive her, too.
