Ellie and God, PAC IV, 2

Cue Wes Burton, Margaret and Hannah Shanks ahead of time…tell them what we’ll be asking them. ELLIE: God?

GOD: Hey Ellie.

ELLIE: I’ve been thinking about miracles.

GOD: Really?

ELLIE: Some of the devotions….some of the small groups. . . . kids have talked about miracles in their lives.

GOD: I know. I heard them.

ELLIE: I guess I’ve got a pretty dull life. I’ve never seen any.

GOD: No kidding. Bummer.

ELLIE: I mean, I’m happy I guess. But listening to other people talk it seems like nothing much happens to me. You think I need to get a life?

GOD: Banjos.

ELLIE: Huh?

GOD: One of the campers was looking at a banjo this morning and John walked up and asked if she’d like to learn how to play it.

ELLIE: I was talking about miracles.

GOD: I am too. So John showed her a few chords. That’s all she’s been thinking about today…how exciting it was to play the banjo.

ELLIE: But I was talking about. . .

GOD: Roger.

ELLIE: What?

GOD: This morning Roger told a girl in his small group that she had a beautiful smile. It really made her happy…. It made her feel good about herself.

ELLIE: Those are miracles?

GOD: Ellie….when I created the world…when I put rainbows in the sky….when I healed the sick….those were easy. I didn’t ask anyone to help me. I did it all in a snap of my fingers…but the greatest miracles…the ones that are tougher to do. . . that’s when I ask someone to help. . . like John.. . like Roger. . . like you, Ellie.

ELLIE: I never thought about it that way.

GOD: The miracles that are the greatest…the ones I need right now…. Well, I need someone to simply say Yes to me.

ELLIE: Say yes? But how do I know when. . . .?

GOD: You’ve heard me whisper in your ear. And I whisper to others…like….like Wes…

(Wes stands and tells about a small miracle he’s seen today)

GOD: Thanks, Wes…How about you, Hannah?

(Hannah answers)

GOD: I love it. One more… Margaret, tell Ellie where you’ve seen a miracle today.

(Margaret answers)

GOD: Are you getting my point, Ellie?

ELLIE: Yeah. Yeah, I am. I guess have seen miracles.

GOD: So…you want to make a miracle for me?

ELLIE: Can I?

GOD: Any time, 24-7, all day long. Look out there…you’ve got a whole room full of miracles just ready to happen.

ELLIE: (a long beat, then) Okay…I guess I’m ready. (You call some camper by name and tell them how they made you happy or you saw them do something sweet or they showed you some sort of love. End with “Lord?”)

GOD: Ellie?

ELLIE: I’m a miracle worker.

GOD: (laughs, then) You are…you are indeed. (you exit)
