Ellie and God, PAC IV, 3

Cue Elisabeth & Brock ahead of time. (Elisabeth goes forward, stands by the piano, and plays the music under all this.)

ELLIE: God?

GOD: Hi Ellie.

ELLIE: I love this part of the weekend.

GOD: Me too.

ELLIE: The singing and dancing is done…it’s all quiet…..and I’m in a room full of people who love each other and you.

GOD: The perfect storm.

ELLIE: But I’ve never understood….

GOD: What?

ELLIE: What’s so special about coming to the altar?

GOD: Nothing.

ELLIE: Nothing?

GOD: It’s a few boards nailed together with some padding so it won’t hurt your knees.

ELLIE: But then why. . . .?

GOD: It’s not the altar, Ellie. It’s what you bring TO the altar.

ELLIE: What do you mean?

GOD: What you bring TO the altar….your worries…your problems…your asking me to come into your life.

ELLIE: (a long beat, then) Anything else?

GOD: Some people bring a friend.

ELLIE: (a long beat, then) Brock…would you pray with me?

(Brock comes forward, takes Ellie by the hand they go to the altar to pray as Elisabeth sings. If they are still praying when Elisabeth finishes the songs, Elisabeth continues the instrumental under until they’re done. If they finish before Elisabeth ends the lyrics, Brock and Ellie walk back to sit in the audience.)
