Ellie and God Weekend IV performance 1
Ellie: God, you there? God: Always Ellie: Great! I can’t believe it’s already the last weekend of camp! It feels like I just can’t get enough time out here. It goes by so fast. God: Why do you think time goes by so fast at P.A.C.? Ellie: Well, we are always doing something and having fun. There is no time to worry about the mistakes we have made or the mistakes we might make. God: So why worry in the first place? Ellie: I don’t mean to! It just creeps up on me. Like when I’m at home taking a shower or if I’m out for a drive or when it creeps into my head right before I fall asleep. God: I know how worry creeps around… That means you’re human. I watch people every day think about the “what if’s” of life. Ellie: So you know about those? God: Of course. Like that time you really wanted to impress your friends at the track meet. Ellie: Hey! I remember that! All I wanted was to show my friends how good I was, but then that worry crept into my head. I started to think “What if I trip?” or “What if I come into last or if I’m not good enough” God: And how did you feel after you ran that day? Ellie: Not good. I was left so… empty. Even though I ran well, the worrying took the fun out of it. Honestly, I don’t think my friends cared how I had run either. God: All that worrying was for nothing, wasn’t it? Ellie: Yeah, I guess it was. God? God: Yeah? Ellie: If a track meet isn’t worth worrying about, what is? God: Nothing Ellie: Nothing? Are you sure? Because coming up this week I have something really important for this …… God: Nothing Ellie: So how will I know. . . God: Nothing. Ellie: But what if. . God: Nothing. Do you believe in me, Ellie? Ellie: Of course. God: And do you believe what I say is true? You think I’d lie to you? Ellie: No. Never. God: ________, tell her what I said. Person 1: From Mathew 6: “ Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” God: _______, tell her what I said. Person 2: From Philippians. . . “Do not be anxious about anything. Ellie: But what if. . . God: She’s still not listening. Talk to her, _________. Person 3: From John. . . “Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.” God: Are you getting the message? Ellie: (a long beat, then) Thanks for being patient with me. God: Thanks for listening. . . finally.
