II, 1 Travis & God

2008

TRAVIS: Hey God!

GOD: Travis! Welcome back to camp!

TRAVIS: Hey, I’ve got a question.

GOD: You know me…Mr. Answer man.

TRAVIS: How come…I mean, how come when I get here I always…you know…I always feel so great?

GOD: Well… __________ is in the front row. That’s gotta make things good.

TRAVIS: Yeah, but it’s the whole thing, Lord. I mean, everything seems better when I’m at PAC. What is it?

GOD: Well…let’s try to figure this out. Tell me something weird about this place.

TRAVIS: Well…like I said… people seem happy all the time… they aren’t afraid to get up and show their talent… they hug each other a lot… heck, even the wieners taste better at PAC.

GOD: Don't forget the salad.

TRAVIS: And the salad!

GOD: Good, good. Now…name one other thing that’s sort of weird …

TRAVIS: About the salad?

GOD: Travis, you’re a knucklehead.

TRAVIS: (laughs) I know. Let me think.

GOD: (a beat) What did you do before you got up here?

TRAVIS: I prayed.

GOD: What did _________ do before she/she ____________?

TRAVIS: Prayed…he/she asked somebody to pray for them.

GOD: (a beat) Am I getting through to you at all?

TRAVIS: You mean prayer?

GOD: Duh.

TRAVIS: But that’s…that’s such a simple thing, God.

GOD: Yeah.. such a simple thing.

TRAVIS: And that makes all the difference?

GOD: Travis, don't believe what they tell you. You are one sharp cookie.

TRAVIS: Thanks. So just because people at PAC pray so much…

GOD: Did I say it was just the people in this room? Pick somebody out. Give me a name.

TRAVIS: Well….(looks around, spots the people) Okay…my buddy there. Erich Nobis.

GOD: Erich’s mom starts every day by praying for her children…and his grandparents Juanita and Charlie have been praying for him since before he was born.

TRAVIS: Cool. How about…how about… Jeremy Little?

GOD: Jeremy used to go to a different school before he moved close to here. Two years before he even stepped foot on this campground, his friends…some of the guys on his football team… prayed that he’d be here some day.

TRAVIS: No kidding. How about Hannah Stephens?

GOD: You remember the night when Hannah was a little girl and her big brother Nick took her hand and they went to the altar together? Yeah, it’s prayer that makes this place special, Travis…and it’s more than the people in this room. Pick a camper….

TRAVIS: Uh…(sees one) _____________. (TRAV: We’ll need to discuss this one..make sure I know their back story.)

GOD:

TRAVIS: That is so cool.

GOD: So…. You ready for a great day?

TRAVIS: I think I’m already havin’ one. Can we talk again? (a beat, then) I can’t believe I just said that.

GOD: I can. You’re a knucklehead…but I really, really love you.

TRAVIS: This praying stuff…just talking to you….pretty cool, Lord.

GOD: That’s why I made you. I like friends.

TRAVIS: (a beat then) Later?

GOD: See ya ‘round, knucklehead. (Travis exits)
