JOHN: God?
GOD: Yeah, John?
JOHN: I met a new friend.
GOD: Good. That’s one of the best things about PAC.
JOHN: And we were talking.
GOD: That’s another good thing about camp…time to just talk. Talking about what?
JOHN: You.
GOD: Good topic. I like that topic.
JOHN: He was so curious…he wanted to know about you.
GOD: Good.
JOHN: And here I was a counselor..
GOD: …yeah.
JOHN: And I didn’t know for sure what to say.
GOD: Oh.
JOHN: I’m sorry.
GOD: It happens.
JOHN: I mean, I talked, you know. I told him what a difference you’d made in my life. How I depend on you. How you help me when I’m lonely or sad. And I told him about how deep a friendship can be with somebody if we both have you in our lives.
GOD: What else?
JOHN: I told him I loved you. …and that you loved me. But I didn’t know what to say to help him understand. (a long beat, then) God?
GOD: I’m here.
JOHN: I’m sorry.
GOD: For what?
JOHN: For not knowing what to say.
GOD: What was it…I mean, just what was it that you thought you should have said?
JOHN: I don’t know. Like some people know the Bible really well and could have told him some scripture, but I don’t have it memorized like that.
GOD: So?
JOHN: I some people can preach really good sermons to people.
GOD: John.
JOHN: Huh?
GOD: He asked a question. You answered it. Plainly and simply and……beautifully.
JOHN: Really?
GOD: Just now….just now when you talked about your love for me…I had tears in my eyes. That’s a pretty good answer if it makes God cry.
JOHN: Wow.
GOD: Tonight….tonight there’ll be time to talk again.
JOHN: At the altar?
GOD: Yeah. But promise me something, would you?
JOHN: Sure.
GOD: Don’t….don’t talk too much. If somebody wants to know about me, just tell them what you know. Tell them about our friendship…yours and mine. Then let me take over.
JOHN: Nice.
GOD: Yeah. I know all the right words.
JOHN: (a beat, then) It’s gonna be good.
GOD: It’s gonna be real good.
JOHN: See you there?
GOD: I wouldn’t miss it.
