GOD: Hi John.
JOHN: Is it okay to ask questions? I mean, is okay to question God?
GOD: You just did.
JOHN: Oh.
GOD: (laughing) What do you want to know, John?
JOHN: Somebody once told me I shouldn’t question God.
GOD: Questioning my love, my hand in your life…that’s pretty silly. But was there something specific?
JOHN: Well…okay, it’s dumb stuff.
GOD: What else is new? Go ahead.
JOHN: How did I get here?
GOD: Well, your Mom and Dad were…
JOHN: No, no…I mean before that.
GOD: I introduced them.
JOHN: Oh. Why is the sky blue?
GOD: I like the color.
JOHN: Why aren’t dinosaurs in the Bible?
GOD: The same reason you can’t find microwaves or Brennan Vahle. It’s not a dictionary, John. It’s my love letter to you, not Google.
JOHN: Why did Noah live so long?
GOD: I had a lot of work for him to do. John, is there anything important you want to know? I feel like I’m on Jeopardy.
JOHN: Sorry. How about this…Why are we here?
GOD: Finally….an important question. Well…there’s a cool way to find out. Ask them.
JOHN: Ask them?
GOD: Why not? Ask somebody why they’re here.
JOHN: (You call someone by name. “_______. Why are you here?”… Then ask one more. End with: “I like that.”)
GOD: And how about you, John?
JOHN: Me?
GOD: John Love….why are you here?
JOHN: (you answer)
GOD: I like that answer. I like that very much. John, this life isn’t some giant jigsaw puzzle that you’ve got to figure out. You play video games?
JOHN: Sure.
GOD: And what happens…what happens when you really master a game…when you get it all figured out…when you know how to win it every time?
JOHN: It gets boring. I quit playing it.
GOD: Yeah.
JOHN: (a long beat, then) I think I get it.
GOD: Phil’s your friend, right?
JOHN: Yeah. I love the guy.
GOD: Do you need him?
JOHN: Yeah. Yeah, I need Phil.
GOD: And what would happen to your friendship if you no longer needed each other?
JOHN: I understand.
GOD: Go ahead, John. Ask questions…wonder all you want…try to figure things out.. but the very fact that you need me….that’s why we love each other. I’ll give you ever answer you’ll ever …..need.
