JOHN: Hey, Lord.
GOD: Hi John.
JOHN: Is this great or what?
GOD: I agree.
JOHN: I was walking through the cafeteria this afternoon and the weirdest thing happened.
GOD: Yeah?
JOHN: I started singing. I just started singing to myself…nobody else close...Just me…singing.
GOD: I heard you.
JOHN: I guess you did.
GOD: Several people heard you.
JOHN: You’re kidding.
GOD: No. You didn’t notice, but lots of people heard you singing to yourself.
JOHN: Oh gosh.
GOD: No, it was good. I liked it.
JOHN: Good. I don’t even know what I’d sound like if it was awful.
GOD: Maybe…Scott?
JOHN: So why does that happen? I mean, I didn’t even know I was doing it ‘til I heard myself sing.
GOD: I want to warn you. It’s going to happen more and more often.
JOHN: Really?
GOD: What happens when you go outside and get closer to the sun?
JOHN: Uh…I get hot?
GOD: And if you’re on the top bunk in the door at night?
JOHN: I get cold. I’m closer to the air conditioning.
GOD: …and if you get closer to me?
JOHN: I…..I’m happy. I sing.
GOD: And other people notice. … and they wonder what makes you sing….and smile…a laugh…and love others so openly.
JOHN: You’re right.
GOD: And they find out…..
JOHN: They find out it’s because I’ve moved closer to you.
GOD: To quote a famous guitar player… “Hot dog.”
JOHN: I like that. I mean, it sort of takes off the pressure.
GOD: Pressure.
JOHN: The Bible says I should be a witness to my friends…that I should help them find you. ..but sometimes I don’t know how to do that.
GOD: But you just did.
JOHN: I’m……
GOD: People watch you, John. They see your joy and they want it for themselves…and the only way they can do that…
JOHN: Is to get closer to You.
GOD: Yeah. I think you’ve got it.
JOHN: (a beat, then) It’s gonna be a great weekend. (a beat) Amen?
GOD: (a beat, then) Hot dog.
JOHN: (Pick something to sing here…it can be an up-tempo song…but make sure it’s one that the audience will know and can sing along…have someone in the audience cued to join in so the other will….Then you exit as they sing.)
