John and God, PAC IV, 3
JOHN: (enters, looks around a bit, then..) God?
GOD: So how’s the magician?
JOHN: I’ve been doing that this weekend…what we talked about…praying for people instead of worrying about them. That’s so much easier.
GOD: Remember the verse you learned in Bible school? Philippians?
JOHN: 4:6: Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks.
GOD: You do have a good memory.
JOHN: Been collecting those too…the memories.
GOD: I know.
JOHN: This weekend in small group I got to pray for a boy/girl who (name it)__________.
GOD: I heard.
JOHN: I was just standing back there a minute ago… looking at the stage… in a few minutes it’s gonna become an altar where we can pray.
GOD: Yep. The performances are over….now for the real stuff.
JOHN: I was remembering last week…right up there (show the spot)… I prayed with a boy/girl. I’m never gonna forget that.
GOD: I can’t ever forget it. Lots of good memories from this final altar time. But you’re not the only one. Ask around.
JOHN: Do what?
GOD: Ask around…look at there in the audience… lots of people have good memories of that altar.. Go ahead…ask somebody..
JOHN: (It’d be a good idea to clue these people in ahead of time..tell them what you’ll be asking them) (calling on someone) __________? What are your …you know…what memories do you have of the altar? (they answer..then call on one more. End with “That’s pretty cool.”)
GOD: And tonight….. Tonight we make more memories.
JOHN: (a long beat, then) Remember when we met?
GOD: You and me?
JOHN: Yep.
GOD: Sure do.
JOHN: I mean, I’d heard about you in church and Sunday School and stuff, and I’d prayed…but one night when I was a camper…right here at the altar….that’s when we really met alone…just you and me.
GOD: I’ll never forget it.
JOHN: And then…and then I got up from the altar and I wasn’t sure what just happened..but I knew that something had happened.
GOD: I know.
JOHN: So…you tell me. What happened?
GOD: It was simple. It was you talking…just to me. No circle of friends, no family… just a simple talk and you said that you believed me.
JOHN: I remember. I just said that I believed that I foul up a lot and that You sent your Son to earth to die….for me.
GOD: I had to, John. I love you that much.
JOHN: (a long beat, then) And from that moment on…. I was going to live my life with you by my side. And then I think I cried.
GOD: (a beat, then) I did.
JOHN: (a beat, then) So….tonight…?
GOD: We get to do it again. Some for the first time. Some to renew our promise to each other.
JOHN: (a beat, then) I’ll be here.
GOD: So will I. (John exits)
