LAURA: What a weekend, Lord.
GOD: Amen.
LAURA: Always different….but always the same feeling.
GOD: Like what?…Let’s talk a little, okay? What’ll you remember most?
LAURA: (you name some things that were especially moving or memorable) (end with “I’ve loved it all.”)
GOD: Yeah…and.. (names a few more) ….. Memories…good stuff.
LAURA: I wish I could just seal it up in a bottle and take it out whenever I needed a breath of you, Lord.
GOD: Oh, we can do better than that.
LAURA: We can?
GOD: Most things you’ve done this weekend you’ve done with other people, right?
LAURA: I guess. I’ve had some great times with … (name a few campers or counselors)
GOD: But tomorrow morning those people will be gone.
LAURA: I know.
GOD: So to make it last…something you can really take with you, you’ll have to be alone ….at least for a while. It’s great to connect with people, but tonight let’s make it stick. Let’s get real.
LAURA: I’m not sure I follow you.
GOD: Tonight.
LAURA: Oh. At the altar.
GOD: Yeah. At the altar. Tonight there’ll be lots of people praying ….and you’ll pray with some…but to really … how did you put it?
LAURA: Bottle it up.
GOD: Yeah. Bottle it up. To make it real….to make it permanent…just spend some time alone, okay? But do me a favor?
LAURA: Yeah?
GOD: Don’t talk too much. Just be with me. Just listen. That’s the reason I made you, you know. To be with me….to talk to me…..to love me.
LAURA: Just listen.
GOD: Just listen.
LAURA: I like that. Sometimes when I pray I don’t know what to say. …. I just run out of words.
GOD: Good. Oh, I’ll listen to whatever you have to say…but….
LAURA: Yeah?
GOD: I know the plans I have for you…plans to make your life better and not to harm you…plans to give you hope and a future.
LAURA: That’s awesome, Lord.
GOD: And you will leave Green Pastures with joy and be led forth in peace…and the hills will burst forth with song before you and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
LAURA: That’s amazing.
GOD: You’re tellin’ me.
LAURA: (a beat, then) Thanks.
GOD: (a beat) I love you, Laura.
LAURA: I love you, Lord.
GOD: I love you more.
LAURA: I know. (a long beat, then begin singing “Alleluia.” Have someone in the audience cued begin singing with you. On the second verse sing the melody to “He’s my savior” and as they begin to sing the second verse, you exit.)
