Laura and God, PAC II, 1
LAURA: Lord?
GOD: Laura! What a joy! You’re back!
LAURA: Yeah. I love it.
GOD: We missed you. So…how you’re doing?
LAURA: Sometimes when you’re away from this place….I don’t know . . . you forget things. I’ve sort of spent the day reminding myself.
GOD: How old were you when you first came to PAC?
LAURA: _________ I think.
GOD: Yes, you were ____________. And you were scared.
LAURA: I was scared. . . and I felt nervous about performing.
GOD: So what changed your mind?
LAURA: (a beat…thinking) I guess it was the people. People can be critical, but out here it’s like you’re always forgiven if you foul up. They keep on loving you anyway.
GOD: Wow. I wonder where they got that idea?
LAURA: (a beat, then) I get your point.
GOD: It’s not the campgrounds. . . it’s me….in people.
LAURA: I see what you mean.
GOD: So tell me…where have you seen me today?
LAURA: Seen you?
GOD: In people. . . . Where did you see me?
LAURA: Well. . .(then you go on to specifically name a camper or a staff member where you’ve seen God so far today…tell us what they did)
GOD: That’s great….yeah, that was me. Where else?
LAURA: (you name another)
GOD: Yeah…yeah, that’s what it’s all about.
LAURA: But I’ve got a confession, Lord.
GOD: What’s that?
LAURA: Even after all these years. . . .I’m still nervous about performing.
GOD: Pick out a camper.
LAURA: Do what?
GOD: Pick out a camper . . . somebody you got to know. . .go ahead. Bring them up there.
LAURA: Well…(looking the crowd over) Okay….. _________________(name someone) Would you come up here? Don’t worry. I don’t know what’s going on either. (they come up and stand beside you)
GOD: Good. Now tell ____________ how God has made them so special to you.
LAURA: Do what?
GOD: Just talk to _____________. Tell him/her how you can see God in them.
LAURA: (you do)
GOD: Laura?
LAURA: Yeah?
GOD: You just did the most important performance of the weekend.
LAURA: I did?
GOD: No dance…no mime or song or skit can compare to the performance you just gave. . . and you weren’t even nervous. That’s what PAC is all about. That’s the kind of performance ____________ will remember forever.
LAURA: That’s pretty cool.
GOD: Now….keep on performing, okay?
LAURA: (a beat, then) Okay. (hug the camper and take him/her back to the seats)
