Laura and God, PAC II, 2
(Contact Hannah ahead of time.) LAURA: Hi Lord.
GOD: Laura.
LAURA: It’s been a great day.
GOD: I know. I planned it that way.
LAURA: (smiles, then) Thanks.
GOD: So what’s been the best part?
LAURA: Oh gosh…so much to choose from.
GOD: I know. Pick one.
LAURA: I guess it would be the people. That’s what I always remember most about PAC.
GOD: But with your dance job in St. Louis you get to meet lots of people.
LAURA: I know…but out here…. It’s like you can go a whole year without seeing anybody but when you meet again it’s like you’ve been together every day.
GOD: Yeah…You must have something pretty special in common. I wonder what it is.
LAURA: I’m not sure. John and I did a lot of theatre together. . .
GOD: Yeah. . .
LAURA: Cathy and I went to high school together. . .
GOD: Okay.
LAURA: And I just met Tamar this weekend but she’s pretty cool.
GOD: Uh….Laura. I don’t see any pattern here. They’re all your friends for different reasons.
LAURA: I guess you’re right.
GOD: Yes, I am. So there must be something else…something even stronger that you have in common.
LAURA: (a beat then) I think I forgot the obvious.
GOD: Happens to the best of us.
LAURA: You. We make lifelong friendships because we have one thing in common…you.
GOD: And the really cool thing, Laura…the very best part … is that you can meet someone for the first time but if you both know Jesus Christ then it’s like you’ve been friends forever. Okay…Let’s get specific. . . name someone whom you’ve really grown close to through your love of God.
LAURA: (a beat as you think) Well…lots …but …I guess Hannah would be on the top of my list.
GOD: I thought you might say that. I’ve seen you two worship together.
LAURA: Yeah. Lots of times.
GOD: So do it now.
LAURA: Now?
GOD: Why not?
LAURA: I’m not….you know…sure what you mean.
GOD: You. . . . Hannah. . . worship in the way that makes you the happiest.
LAURA: Right here in front of everyone?
GOD: Sure.
LAURA: But I’m not sure what you . . .
GOD: Don’t worry. I’ve spoken to Hannah. She knows what I mean.
(Hannah rises and begins to dance …then you join her as the music plays)
(the dance ends) LAURA: Friends in Christ.
GOD: Amen.
