1….no need to have them 1….I hope we have them 1….We need one where we sing 1…..We should have them but I’m not sure I can make it to any of them.
David and Susan, Got a favor...a question...an idea... a hope. They put me on the worship committee last year, even though I'm not even a member of the church and I at that time I proposed that if we wanted a richer worship experience, then the preacher needs to do less of the service and the people do more. This isn’t earth-shaking. Many churches use the weekly or monthly lay leader. They’ve found it to be more interesting for the congregation and thus the congregation pays closer attention and feels more involved. And there is certainly no biblical precedent for the way we now hold church. There’s nowhere in the scriptures where it dictates that we hire someone to lead every aspect of our worship. Everyone on the committee thought it was a good idea, but I think Pastor Tim sort of forgot about it. Fast forward one year... We met again this month …Susan was there…and so I asked our committee if we were ready to do something with the idea or if I should stay home and watch Designing Women, something productive.
They agreed that it’s still something we’d like to see happen and this time Pastor Tim understood. And I'm coming to you. Frankly, when you folks speak in church, people listen. Would you take ..say..the month of May? Dividing it up between you however you like…The job would to be a sort of lay leader. All Tim will do is preach. You'll do everything else...announce the hymns, lead the prayer. Of course Tim can do the official Methodist stuff like praying for the offering. I really think that if we don't take charge of our own worship we're going to die on the vine, folks. And yeah, I always go to the busiest people first because they're the ones who'll do it well. ..and I your name is on my list of “A Team.” Please don't worry about “how we do things.” Doing things differently..your style..is the very point of all this.
