Maddy and God

MADDY: Hi God.
GOD: Maddy.
MADDY: This is just amazing.
GOD: What?
MADDY: Out here at PAC…I mean, we do some of the same things every year but it never gets boring. Never! It’s like it’s new and exciting every time even though I’ve been here before.
GOD: Welcome to a life with God.
MADDY: Really?
GOD: You give your life to me and it may be hard…
MADDY: Yeah.
GOD: And you may be confused at times.
MADDY: That’s me.
GOD: But I promise you….it will never, never be boring.
MADDY: I just wish…
GOD: Yeah?
MADDY: I wish I could keep it going. I leave PAC all pumped up then after a few days . . . well, you know.
GOD: Yeah..I know.
MADDY: I just wish I could take some of this magic with me.
GOD: Magic?
MADDY: I mean…you know…
GOD: See that empty chair?
MADDY: (points to one) This one?
GOD: Yeah…it’s a part of PAC. Bring it out there where you are.
MADDY: (bringing chair to the front) This is weird.
GOD: Humor me. Now look out…remember, it’s a part of Green Pastures so it must be a magic chair.
MADDY: Are you making fun of me?
GOD: Yes. Now pay attention. Quick! Make the chair disappear!
MADDY: I can’t.
GOD: Weird…it’s magic. I don’t understand. Okay…a new idea. Make it magically float in the air.
MADDY: God, you know I can’t do that.
GOD: You’re a lousy magician, you know that?
MADDY: Why am I starting to look like a fool?
GOD: Because you….never mind. Maddy, there’s nothing magic about this place. Everything you did here, everything you felt is totally real…but it’s not the place. It’s about people…it’s about Me.
MADDY: I guess I should know that. So….so how do I keep this feeling going?
GOD: Use the magic chair!
MADDY: You’re playing with me again, aren’t you?
GOD: Not really. Watch. Put somebody in the chair.
MADDY: Do what?
GOD: Have someone come up and sit in the chair.
MADDY: Uh…okay. (pick someone)_____________, would you come up here? (they do, have them sit) Okay. Now what?
GOD: Do you love_____________?
MADDY: Sure.
GOD: Good. Tell ‘em why.
MADDY: (you do)
GOD: Good….now pray for them.
MADDY: (you do)
GOD: Great. I heard that.
MADDY: But what was . . . .?
GOD: You just made that chair magic, Maddy. It’s not Green Pastures….it’s not the dances or the mimes or the Orange Elixir. It’s the people….it’s the Christ in people that give you that feeling. And that, my friend, is something you can take with you for the rest of your life.
MADDY: (a long beat, then) With God . . . ‘
GOD: . . . Uh-huh.
MADDY: I can do that.
GOD: Yes, you can. (both exit)
