Maddy and God
Staff Meeting 2014
(on this one, clue in the staff members listed below and make sure they know what to say, including the singer at the end)
MADDY: Hey God.
GOD: Hi Maddy.
MADDY: I got a confession.
GOD: What’s that?
MADDY: This day has been crazy.
GOD: I know. I was there.
MADDY: I mean a total madhouse, Lord.
GOD: And who caused that?
MADDY: Three guesses. I just put things off. Sorry.
GOD: That’s okay. You’re here now. You’re okay.
MADDY: You spend a lot of time making up for me, don’t you?
GOD: It’s called grace. Wish you’d use it more often.
MADDY: Sorry.
GOD: So?
MADDY: Okay, I’ve still got a bunch of stuff to do to get ready for tomorrow morning.
GOD: Like?
MADDY: Where do I start? I guess our small group talked too much and after we made the nametags we barely had time to pray. Could you help me with that?
GOD: Go to the scripture.
MADDY: Which one?
GOD: Emma’s got one that’ll help you.
MADDY: Really? Emma?
EMMA BIBLE: Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.
MADDY: Uh…okay. But what’s that got to do with all this stuff I’ve got to do?
GOD: Ask Brenan.
MADDY: Brenan?
BRENAN POOL: Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.
MADDY: Okay, but…I don’t think you understood my problem, Lord. I mean, I barely got unpacked and there are still some people I need to talk to before…
GOD: Ask Ellie. She’s got a great one.
MADDY: Ellie?
ELLIE SMITH: Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.
MADDY: I understand that, Lord. But we’ve got kids coming in a few hours and…
GOD: Okay, okay. I see what you need now. I guess I wasn’t paying attention. Alexis has the perfect verse.
MADDY: Alexis?
ALEXIS: Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.
MADDY: (a long beat, then) I’m slow.
GOD: Tell me about it. (a beat, then) Maddy, you did everything you should have today.
MADDY: Really?
GOD: Yeah. And in the totally wrong order. You got it all backwards.
MADDY: Oh.
GOD: First I’ll get packed then I’ll come to camp then I’ll unpack, then I’ll meet with the counselors…and then…and then….
MADDY: When I get it all done I come to you.
GOD: Yeah. Right stuff. Wrong order.
MADDY: So I blew it?
GOD: No.
MADDY: (a beat, then) Grace, right?
GOD: Yeah. Grace. The distance I make up between you and me.
MADDY: (a beat, then) I’ve got one more confession……I’ve lived my whole year that way.
GOD: I know.
MADDY: I wish I could….I wish I could make up for it…
(Someone whom you’ve cued begins singing “Amazing Grace”…others hopefully join in, and as they do, you exit.)
