Ellie: Hey God! God: Hi Ellie. Ellie: I’m having a great time at camp. God: I know. I can tell by the smile on your face. Ellie: All the performances and the energy… they just blow me away. God: Me too. ( pause) You wanna know what’s even better than the performances? Ellie: What’s that? God: The people who do them. Ellie: You’re right. I can remember so many cool people who’ve gotten to be a part of my life here. And not just counselors, but campers too God: How so? Ellie: Like (tells about a camper in the audience that has been there several years and how they’ve grown up. It will end with ‘isn’t that neat, Lord?” God: Sure is. You’ve watched them grow up a little, haven’t you? Ellie: For sure. But God, you’ve seen us all grow, Haven’t you? God: . . People come and go in this camp. Voices get deeper, Campers grow taller than counselors, and minds get wiser. Ellie: It’s hard watching people change, Lord. I guess I like things to stay the same. GOD: You’re afraid. ELLIE: Yeah. I guess I am. Change makes me nervous. GOD: Well, guess what, girl. That’s too bad. Change is the name of my game. You’d better get used to it. ELLIE That sounds harsh. GOD: (laughs) Sorry. But I thought you wanted the truth. ELLIE I do. GOD: Just ask Maddy. ELLIE Do what? GOD: Maddy. She’s got a message for you. MADDY: If anyone is in Christ, she is a new creation. The old has gone. The new has come. 2nd Corinthians. ELLIE I don’t get it. GOD: Ask Brock. ELLIE Uh. . okay. Brock? BROCK: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for your good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. ELLIE Where are you going with this, Lord? GOD: How can I make you new. . how can I make great plans for your future if you’re afraid to change? ELLIE I guess I’ve just got to trust you. GOD: Yes Ellie, I guess you do. But you want to hear some really good news? ELLIE What’s that? GOD: There’s one thing that’ll never change. ELLIE Yeah? GOD: . . . I love you. Trust me. That will never change. And me?
