PAC IV, 2

BRENAN: Hey Lord.

God: Hi Brenan.

BRENAN: Had something funny happen today.

God: What’s that?

BRENAN: Well, I mean it wasn’t like laugh out loud funny, but I had to smile.

God: Tell me about it.

BRENAN: Well, we were in small group and one of my kids was talking about what made her afraid. (or you can say it happened at an earlier camp)

God: What’s so funny about that?

BRENAN: The funny part is that I was the leader so I had to sit there and tell her why she shouldn’t be afraid.

God: Good move. But I still don’t see what’s so funny.

BRENAN: The funny part is that I was giving her advice. . . me. Big high school graduate . . . one of the wise counselors. . .

God: Yeah. . .

BRENAN: And I. . .

God: And you were scared, too.

BRENAN: (a beat, then) You nailed it, Lord.

God: (laughs) I love it.

BRENAN: I’m leaving for college in another month and I’m nervous about that. I think I know what I want to do in life, but I’m not sure. I think I’m ready for all this but I really don’t know. There are still a lot of things that scare me.

God: So what advice did you give her?

BRENAN: Well, I told her to trust in you.

God: But that same advice is no good for you, huh?

BRENAN: Well, I mean of course it’s good enough for me, but still. . .

God: . . .but still some things make you nervous.

BRENAN: Yeah. . .

God: . . . and a little afraid.

BRENAN: I guess so.

God: Good.

BRENAN: Huh?

God: As long as think you can’t do it on your own then we’ll get to talk more often.

BRENAN: (smiles) I guess you’re right.

God: Brenan, I’ll let you in on a little secret. . . even my strongest people. . . my mightiest warriors. . . they get afraid of things, too.

BRENAN: That’s good to hear.

God: You should know. You’re one of them. There’s nothing wrong with being a little scared of things . . . as long as you know that I’ve got your back.

BRENAN: That’s really good hear.

God: In everything. Everything you do. Everywhere you go. . . we. . .you and I. . .we’ve got this thing.

BRENAN: (smiles) I like that. You should put it in the Bible.

God: I did. Joel?

JOEL: John 14. . . “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you, Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.”

God: Hannah (shanks).

HANNAH SHANKS: Joshua. . “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God: And how about you, Caleb?

CALEB: From Psalm 23: “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

God: Is this starting to make sense, my friend?

BRENAN: Perfectly.

God: We’ve got this thing, Brenan.

BRENAN: We’ve got this thing, Lord. (you exit)
