Interactive…John, God and Video
JOHN: (walks into the area) God? (nothing) Hey God? (a beat, then) Sometimes…sometimes when I go looking for God it seems like he’s not there..
(VIDEO: Stock shot from last year of campers begin greeted at cars on Friday morning…with audio) (John turns to look at video)
JOHN: (at a pre-determined point in the video) What’s all this?
GOD: I thought you were looking for me.
JOHN: I was, but….
GOD: Here I am. Look…that’s me.
JOHN: Up there?
GOD: Everywhere, but yeah, that’s a good starting place.
JOHN: Okay, I know…I understand …but I came to camp this year…in fact, I always come to camp to get closer to You.
GOD: Good.
JOHN: But I mean, those are other people…
GOD: I know. Listen up, John.
(VIDEO: GIRL: (waving in John’s direction) Hey John! JOHN: She’s talking to me. GIRL: It’s great to see you at camp. JOHN: Are you talking to me? GIRL: Sure I’m talking to you! JOHN: This is weird. GIRL: Gotta go! (she leaves) JOHN: Hey! Wait a minute! BOY: (running in to the shot) John! My man! JOHN: _________! What’re you doing? BOY: I’m talking to you! JOHN: I can’t believe this is happening. BOY: Believe it! Hey…it’s gonna be a great weekend. JOHN: Uh…yeah. BOY: Why you actin’ so weird? JOHN: I’m not used to talking to …you know…talking to a video. BOY: This is PAC. Anything can happen. (the boys exits the shot and the screen goes blank)
JOHN: I’m talking to a computer.
GOD: I beg your pardon.
JOHN: No! No! I don’t mean you, Lord. But one of the reasons I come to PAC is to just be with you. It’s so easy out here.
GOD: Yeah…I know.
JOHN: Just you and me alone and…
(Again the screen is filled with campers doing camp activities….It seems to get louder)
JOHN: (turns to look at it, then begins to shout over the noise) Lord! Lord! It’s too noisy! I can’t hear you, Lord! ….Hey God! God, could you turn it down!? (John jumps up to stand in front of the screen and the video continues, this time projected onto him.) Lord, I can’t talk to you if I’ve got all this noise! God, I came to PAC to be with you and now I’ve got all this racket!
(Suddenly the video..the noise stops…it gets very quiet.)
GOD: (after a long beat) That better?
JOHN: (a long beat, then) Sorry. I didn’t mean to shout. You see, I had it all planned out..
GOD: ...You had what planned out?
JOHN: How I was going to spend time with you this weekend. I’ve been thinking about it for weeks…looking forward to it.
GOD: Okay.
JOHN: But….but it’s not working out that way, God. Every time I tried to get alone with you today, somebody was there…
GOD: You mean like this? (Video of John doing things with campers or counselors…a variety of quick shots)
JOHN: (watches this, then ) Yeah…(pointing to the on-going video) See. I was just about to walk down by the pond to have a talk with you…alone…
GOD: I know.
JOHN: Then everybody came up and we were having such a good time…
GOD: ….Oh yeah, that couldn’t have been me if you were having a good time.
JOHN: Sorry. I didn’t mean it that way. (The video stops)
GOD: You’re a good boy, John. I love you…more than that, I even like you. But …..John, don’t ever try to plan how you’re going to meet me…where you’re going to find me. Leave that to me. I’ve got bigger plans…bigger ideas than you. You with me?
JOHN: Sure.
GOD: I’m gonna surprise you.
JOHN: Cool.
GOD: I’m gonna surprise you.
JOHN: Great.
GOD: All you have to do is watch for me…I’ll be everywhere.
(More camp video…from this year or past years…kids interacting…MUSIC UNDER…After several of these shots we see a shot of a single flower….the shot holds there a bit…
GOD: …. even in the simplest things..
(Then the shot widens to show a girl entering the scene to pick the flower. She looks at it, and then begins to dance with it. After she’s danced a bit, she stops and looks at John.)
GOD: …Let me do the planning John. I’ll be everywhere you look…
(The girl holds out the flower to John.)
(John is puzzled)
GOD: Everywhere…
JOHN: Do I…?
GOD: Everywhere.
(The girl extends the flower his direction as he moves toward the screen. Her hand goes out of the shot and the flower “magically” appears in John’s hand….the image on the screen fades out but music continues under.)
JOHN: Wow.
GOD: I’m gonna surprise you.
JOHN: (exits with flower)
