TRAVIS: (entering, looking around.. says nothing)

GOD: What’re you looking for, Trav?

TRAVIS: Nothing. I was just looking.

GOD: At what?

TRAVIS: Things. Every time I come to camp I see things that…I don’t know… they just bring back so many memories.

GOD: I know what you mean. Like the puppet stage.

TRAVIS: Yea. I was at a school once and they had a stage like this one. I thought of Green Pastures. And this area up here…man, the great times we’ve had putting the mimes together.

GOD: And the great times I’ve had watching them. Anything else?

TRAVIS: Oh man, it’s just everything about camp. Whenever I go into a cafeteria I expect to see Maria and Hannah back there teaching a dance.

GOD: Try it sometime. Could give Steak and Shake a whole new atmosphere.

TRAVIS: The lights and the campfire and …(sees the altar) … Wow. The altar. I can’t even look at it without getting chills about the times I’ve spent up there. All the lives that have changed. The way my life changed up here.

GOD: You ought hear the party that goes on in Heaven every time somebody kneels at that altar, Travis.

TRAVIS: I just wish… well, I wish I could take more of it with me.

GOD: You want to steal the furniture?

TRAVIS: (laughs) You know what I mean. I just wish I could take something to remind me.

GOD: You can. Every year, Travis. Every year I hear kids at camp say how much trouble they have taking me with them when they leave camp. It’s like…well, it’s almost like they give up before they walk out the door.

TRAVIS: I know what you mean.

GOD: It’s not that hard. Lots of people do it. It all depends on what you take with you. It’s got to be more than memories. Make it something real. What are you doing tomorrow?

TRAVIS: Well…I’m usually pretty tired out from camp. I’ll probably sleep in.

GOD: And when you get up?

TRAVIS: Maybe watch some TV. See if there’s a game on.

GOD: And Monday?

TRAVIS: Go to work…that’s when I’ll start losing the feeling.

GOD: It’s no wonder. You didn’t lose it. You just threw it away. Who do you think I am, Travis?

TRAVIS: You…uh…you’re God.

GOD: Yeah. Not Dominoes Pizza. I don’t deliver. You’ve got to come to me. I love you, buddy, but you stay up too late, you sleep through church, you do nothing for anybody all afternoon then you whine because you’ve lost your spirit by bedtime. You know the Greek word for that?

TRAVIS: Uh…no.

GOD: It’s “Well---Duh.”

TRAVIS: (a long beat) I think I just got slammed by God.

GOD: (a beat) You just got loved. You want to take something with you, Travis, make it real. You wanna keep the feeling? You wanna grow? Then do something about it. In your family, with your friends, at the gas station, at WalMart. …be a child of mine. Love people. Pray for people. Give off your spiritual rear and be my hands and my feet this week. You would not believe the difference it’s gonna make in you. (a beat) Is that a clean shirt?

TRAVIS: (a beat, then) Huh?

GOD: Your shirt. Is it clean?

TRAVIS: Uh..yea. I took a shower this morning and I always put on a ….(a beat) You’re making a point, aren’t you?

GOD: I tend to do that a lot.

TRAVIS: Don’t leave camp with a clean spirit and put on the same dirty shirt.

GOD: You know…the more I know you, the more I love you, Trav. If you want to take something from camp, make it your heart. Got it?

TRAVIS: Got it. (he begins to exit)

GOD: Uh..Travis?

TRAVIS: Yeah?

GOD: Nice shirt.
