Travis and God
PAC III, 1
Travis enters....
TRAVIS: Hey God!
GOD: Travis! Welcome back!
TRAVIS: Man, I spend all year just waiting for PAC camp.
GOD: Me too.
TRAVIS: Hey, I’ve never asked you this before. What’s the best part of PAC camp for you?
GOD: You mean besides the Orange Elixir and Chuck’s wardrobe?
TRAVIS: Yea. I mean, those things are obvious.
GOD: Salvation’s good.
TRAVIS: Well, yea. Of course that.
GOD: You tell me.
TRAVIS: (a beat) I asked first.
GOD: I know. But I’m God. I can whip you.
TRAVIS: (laughs, then thinks a minute, then) Well, I guess it’s when all the campers…
GOD: No. Not the campers.
TRAVIS: Huh?
GOD: You. You personally. What’s the best thing about camp for you?
TRAVIS: It’s funny. I’m always asking kids that question, but I guess nobody’s ever asked me.
GOD: I know. So now I’m asking you… What means the most to you about camp?
TRAVIS: I guess….I guess it’s the one place where I can be me.
GOD: Good.
TRAVIS: It’s one place where I’m not afraid to…I don’t know… go deep down inside myself ..and maybe take someone with me.
GOD: I like that.
TRAVIS: Nobody’s judging me. Everybody wants to be loved. People take time to listen to me.
GOD: Good answer. Anything else?
TRAVIS: Yea. One more thing. I get to talk to you…I mean, without so many distractions.
GOD: I like that, too.
TRAVIS: (a very long beat…he can’t speak…he begins to tear up)
GOD: What’s the matter, Travis?
TRAVIS: Thanks, God. Thanks for …for just letting me be here. I ..uh.. I don’t say that often enough.
GOD: (a beat, then) I love you, Trav.
TRAVIS: (a beat) I know. Thanks.
GOD: Really live this weekend..don’t pretend… just be you…and let me be me. Okay? (a beat) So..what’s the best part about camp for you?
TRAVIS: (a beat) You.
GOD: I was just about to say the same thing.
TRAVIS: (a beat, then) I’ll see you later.
GOD: No. I’ll go with you. (Travis smiles and exits.)
