Travis and God
PAC IV, 1
Travis enters....
TRAVIS: Hey God!
GOD: Travis! Welcome back! How you been?
TRAVIS: Great…But when I’m at PAC camp….man, it’s even better.
GOD: Me too.
TRAVIS: Really? I mean…You have bad days and good days?
GOD: Why not?
TRAVIS: Well, I don’t know…I just supposed that because you were…you know… You’re God.
GOD: Yea, I know that.
TRAVIS: I thought that maybe….
GOD: All my days were the same?
TRAVIS: Yea. So…I don’t want to get personal..
GOD: I do.. go ahead.
TRAVIS: What makes a good day for God? What makes you happy?
GOD: Well… How about ___________’s performance?
TRAVIS: Yea. Awesome. Man, she can really (sing), Lord.
GOD: Yea, but you missed the best part. Before she got up there, she was nervous. She’s good, but she really gets nervous when she sings.
TRAVIS: But she had ___________ pray for her.
GOD: (laughs) And that’s good. But sometimes… and this is sort of a secret… sometimes people are so nervous that they don’t even hear the person praying for them. But today… today _______ did something different. When she got nervous, she thought about me.
TRAVIS: That’s…uh… that’s unusual?
GOD: Who do you think about when you get up to perform?
TRAVIS: I….Well, I’m usually so nervous that I’m…
GOD: You just said, “I” three times in the same sentence. Houston, there is your problem.
TRAVIS: (a long beat) Oh.
GOD: Yea. You want to get nervous, think about yourself. You want to calm down, think of me.
TRAVIS: That…uh…that sounds so simple.
GOD: Yea. It’s strange that most people don’t get it.
TRAVIS: (a beat) I do.
GOD: Thought you would. You’re smart.
TRAVIS: And cute. Don’t forget cute.
GOD: I’ll take the credit for that, too.
TRAVIS: (a beat) It’s gonna be a great camp, Lord.
GOD: Yea, I know.
TRAVIS: And you know what?
GOD: Of course. I’m God.
TRAVIS: (smiles) I’m gonna try…I mean, this is hard, but I’m really gonna try to make it better by keeping my mind on you.
GOD: Well…it’s only fair. …I’m keeping my mind on you. (Travis smiles, then leaves.)
