Travis and God, II, 2
Travis: (entering) Uh… Lord. You got a minute?
God: I’ve been around since the beginning of time…Yea, I can spare a few more minutes.
Travis: Look Lord, about that earlier conversation?
God: Yea?
Travis: I’m sorry.
God: Good. Now what conversation?
Travis: When I ran in here talking about my new shoes and my tan.
God: Hmmm. Sorry. Must have forgotten it. You sure it was me?
Travis: Huh? Of course it was you!
God: Wow. I must be getting old.
Travis: I can’t believe God is saying He forgets when somebody insults Him. It was You I wasn’t thinking about, Lord! I talked about everything at camp except You! Then as soon as I realized it, I prayed that you’d forgive me and….
God: Oh. So that’s it.
Travis: What?
God: You prayed that I’d forgive you. Trav, when you ask me to forgive a sin then it sort of leaves my mind. Read your Bible lately? I remove your sin as far as the East is from the West. That’s a long ways, Travis. Further than Meredosia.
Travis: (a long beat as it dawns on him..finally he smiles) That’s pretty cool, you know that? None of my friends can forgive me like that.
God: Maybe that makes Me your best friend, Trav.
Travis: (a long beat, then) Lord, I want You to be my friend again. I went to altar last year and asked You to be my Savior and I know that You’re my Lord, but…well, I want You to be my friend..my best friend.
God: (a beat) Trav, I’d like that very much.
Travis: So…I mean.. How do I start?
God: How do start your friendships?
Travis: Well, when I got to be friends with ________ I hung around him a lot. I talked to him. I trusted him.
God: You got it.
Travis: So…uh..when do we start?
God: Well, if you’re around later this evening, I plan to be hanging around the altar up here. Gonna be some good stuff goin’ on.
Travis: That’s my favorite time at camp… at the altar.
God: I kinda like that one, too.
Travis: Sometimes it gets crowded.
God: I know. I love it. I’ll save you a place.
Travis: You know what I’m lookin’ forward to most, Lord?
God: What’s that?
Travis: After camp. I just can’t imagine how cool it’s gonna be havin’ you as my friend for the whole rest of the year.
God: It’s even better than you can imagine, Trav. Now get out there and love somebody ..for me. See ya later…friend. Travis: …. Friend. (he exits)
