TRAVIS: Hey Lord…! What a camp!
GOD: (sings or says something from a previous act)
TRAVIS: Yeah…wasn’t that great? And when __________ got up there and ___________... Man, I just loved that.
GOD: Me too. And I had a better seat than you did. So whatta you do back there, Trav? You’re sort of stuck on the light board for most of the performances. What are you thinking when you watch my kids perform?
TRAVIS: Well…it depends. Actually, it makes me focus on every act. I like the job.
GOD: Good. I’ve always been a fan of light. Especially when you separate it from the darkness.
TRAVIS: Are you..uh…being philosophical?
GOD: No. Just making conversation. I like talking with you. In fact, that’s the best part of camp…just….talking. .. listening.. Do you ever do that….? While someone’s performing, do you just pray for them?
TRAVIS: Oh yeah. Before most people perform they ask someone to…
GOD: Not that. I mean, that’s good, but to pray for someone when they didn’t ask for it… That’s uh…that’s pretty powerful stuff. Do you ever just see somebody walking toward you..or singing a song or dancing and think, “Hey, I think I’ll pray for them!”? Ever do that?
TRAVIS: Well…I mean you should know…
GOD: I know what I know. I want to know what you know. Talk to me….
TRAVIS: Okay… like today?
GOD: That’d be good.
TRAVIS: Today … (then describe a couple of times today when you prayed for someone of your own accord…I’ll come in after you’ve mentioned two)
GOD: Yeah…those were good. I remember those well. I wonder if the campers know…I’ll bet they don't…I wonder if they know who’s praying for them this weekend. Who prayed for them before they even got here.
TRAVIS: Yeah. That’d be cool to know.
GOD: Then ask.
TRAVIS: Do what?
GOD: Ask around.
TRAVIS: Whatta ya mean?
GOD: Pick out counselor. Ask them what campers they’ve been praying for…Go ahead.. they’ll tell you.
TRAVIS: Okay…uh… (call on one of the staff) ___________? Which campers have you been praying for? (They answer)
GOD: Cool. Pick out another one.
TRAVIS: (does…they answer)
GOD: Isn’t this great?
TRAVIS: Yeah. I mean…it’s gotta make you feel great to know people are praying for you when you don't even know it.
GOD: Try one more…ask them who they’ve been praying for.
TRAVIS: (does..they answer)
GOD: Feels good, doesn’t it? And they got blessed twice, Travis. Once when someone prayed for them and just now when they heard their name mentioned…. You should have seen what happened in their hearts.
TRAVIS: That is so cool.
GOD: So let’s give it a try.
TRAVIS: Whatta you mean?
GOD: Ask them…ask them all..ask everybody…to just take a few seconds to pray for somebody in this room. Don't let them think about it, just the first person who comes to their mind…the first person I put on their mind. Go ahead… you won’t embarrass them. Remember, you’ve seen these guys perform. Nothing embarrasses this group.
TRAVIS: (in your own words you re-explain it quickly.. “How about everybody…right now..just take a few seconds to pray for somebody in this room”) (end with…) Lord, I hope your hear our prayers…
GOD: I do.
TRAVIS: I guess I’ll head back to the lights. (a beat) Thanks, Lord. Thanks for just…for just listening.
GOD: And thank you, Trav. And the next time I bring somebody to your mind…
TRAVIS: Yeah? GOD: There’s a reason. (Travis smiles then goes.)
