Travis and God, PAC IV, I
TRAVIS: Hey Lord!
GOD: Travis! Good to see you, buddy!
TRAVIS: Man, it’s great to be back at camp.
GOD: You remember your first camp?...I mean back when you were little?
TRAVIS: Last year?
GOD: Okay..I mean when you were young. When you were a camper?
TRAVIS: Uh…some of it. It’s been a long time.
GOD: So what do you remember?
TRAVIS: Well…Mom pulled in..or maybe it was my sister who brought me. Tell you the truth, I was scared. These big, huge counselors reached into my car before it stopped moving, and picked me up and carried me inside.
GOD: I remember. You were up-side-down.
TRAVIS: I was up-side-down. They put my name tag on me that way then when I stood up the name tag was up-side-down.
GOD: (laughing) I remember. Everybody thought your name was Sivart.
TRAVIS: And it was so cool…I’d never seen people dance and play rock music and just act so free at a God thing.
GOD: You were pretty scared as I remember.
TRAVIS: Yeah…I spent my first camp sort of hiding…then I told myself that I wasn’t gonna let that happen again. But the music…the dances…it was so cool. And it was worshipping God. It really confused me.
GOD: You’re going on a trip this week, right?
TRAVIS: Yeah..can’t wait. Europe. Six days from now…
GOD: Won’t that be boring? Two weeks on a plane?
TRAVIS: No, the plane is just what gets us there.
GOD: So you’re not going to Ireland just to ride on a plane?
TRAVIS: That’d be crazy.
GOD: Yeah… like…like maybe worshipping a dance or a mime…or falling in love with being in front of people.
TRAVIS: I’m not following you.
GOD: If you’re up there…if you’re performing…and you’re thinking only about how you’re doing instead of WHAT you’re doing… worshipping…it’s sort of like…well, it’s sort of riding a plane for two days…or two weeks… and never getting off. ..never getting anywhere.
TRAVIS: (a beat) The performing…the praise… that just gets me to you.
GOD: You got it. Lots of kids just see the inside of the plane…they never get to see Ireland.. they never feel the joy of finding me through their performance. What do you remember about your last plane ride?
TRAVIS: Well..my legs were cramped, the food was awful, and there was a crying baby in the row right behind me.
GOD: Not heaven.
TRAVIS: Not even close.
GOD: Yeah…I know. This weekend…this weekend, Travis… keep reminding yourself.. The dance, the mime, the drama, the art and music and puppets…they’re only what gets you there. The real fun…the real joy…is landing….giving praise to me. Don't confuse the plane with the destination.
TRAVIS: (a beat, then) I like that, Lord. I really like that.
GOD: So… You ready?
TRAVIS: Yea.. let’s fly.
