Jesus Christ Superstar

1994 · Jacksonville Theatre Guild

In 1994, Ken Bradbury directed the Jacksonville Theatre Guild's production of Jesus Christ Superstar, the landmark rock opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. Told largely from the perspective of Judas Iscariot, the sung-through musical follows the final week of Jesus of Nazareth — from his arrival in Jerusalem and the gathering tension among his followers, through his betrayal, trial before Pontius Pilate and King Herod, and crucifixion.

The Guild assembled a large company for the production, anchored by Nathan Carls as Jesus, Rick Barger as Judas, and Kristin Van Aken as Mary Magdalene, supported by a full chorus and a live orchestra under music director and conductor David Shaffer.
