2012 Scholastic Bowl Workshop Schedule

Elect Success! Friday, October 26, 2012 Doubletree Hotel – 10 Brickyard Drive Bloomington, IL 9:00 – 9:30 am- From all across the great state of Illinois, our Scholastic Bowl Delegates Meet, Greet and Sign In for another great convention of the minds!

9:30- 9:45 am- The Opening Gavel is sounded and we lay out our 2012 platform for Scholastic Bowl Success.

9:45- 10:45 am- Primary I Yes, We Can!... Demonstrate the match and talk logistics! Presenting: Our Candidates for Online, NAQT style matches, Jeff Price of Barrington Station and Victor Kluck of Slammer Systems. You cast the ballot for the system of your choice.

10:45- 10:50 am- Tippecanoe, Let’s Skip to the Loo!

10:50 - 11:50 am- Primary II Avoid those nasty “hanging chads” by knowing the rules as Senator Scholastic Bowl himself, Jack Small, gives you the official IESA platform. Every Vote Counts… and so do integers, angles and algebra. Pam Helfers Riss of Streator Northlawn plots the way toward successful math strategies so your young candidates score big in this season’s election. Cocktails, Celebrities & Presidential Napkins …or whatever it takes to raise the funds for your team, by master buck-finder, Mike Hurley of Questions Galore.

11:55- 12:55 pm- A Chicken in Every Pot …..The Doubletree lays out its finest Election Day spread.

1:00- 2:00 pm- Primary III Blue State, Red State, Strategies to Dominate! Fireball Fred Basolo of Normal Metcalf supercharges our convention with ways to put your contenders on top when the final votes are tallied. Senator Jack Small again gives you the official results on the rules and regs to put your candidates over the op. I like Ike, and Mitt, and Barack, and any other names that are going to help me win this match. Carolee Hicks of Paris Crestwood reveals secret tactics and tricks to put your contestants on top of the Science and Social Studies race.

2:00 - 2:05pm- No exiting polling. If you gotta go, you gotta go. It’ll be a change you can believe in.

2:05- 3:05 pm- Primary IV “Ain’t it pretty to be in Uganda on the 4th of July?” ….how to avoid having your scholastic bowl team take a beating in Language Arts/Fine Arts, Geography and Social Studies. The double-barrelled threat from Rochester, Suzanne Pettyjohn and Amanda Trewwartha, have elected to map out a battle plan to put your young aspirants ahead in the polls. I Demand a Recount!...or a least a re-peat of the Math Strategies session courtesy of Pam Helfers. No Dirty Tricks allowed….but there are ways to get yourself a team of winners, as Christine Soukup of Barrington Prairie takes you through the smoke-filled backroom of practice strategies.
