IESA SPEECH
New Category/Event
Small Group Acting will be introduced as a new category/event for the 2000-2001 season. This is a scripted event for three to five performers who characterize three or more persons. Performances have a time requirement of 5-10 minutes. Allowable props for this event are a table and a maximum of three chairs. The emphasis of this event is on acting. Selections should be appropriate to the abilities of the performers and should showcase the performers’ acting abilities. 4.084: A serious or humorous presentation by three to five performers characterizing three or more persons presenting one selection within a time limitation. The small group can not be directed by the speech instructor. Failure to have the correct number of contestants, or if the presentation is conducted by the speech instructor shall result in the small group acting presentation not being judged or rated. Selections may still be performed at the discretion of the instructor.
New Rating
The Judge’s Choice rating will be new for the 2000-2001 season. At all contests, each judge will select a maximum of two outstanding performances from those that they have evaluated. Those participants chosen will be awarded with a certificate. The new rating will be a post-contest award and will be given in addition to any ratings/awards the participants have already received. Judge’s Choice awards winners will also be posted to the website. 4.0883: A “Judge’s Choice” ranking shall be given by each judge to two overall performances from those selections the judge has evaluated. This ranking shall be in addition to any award the individuals have received. Those individuals receiving the ranking shall be given a certificate.
