Dave and I… When We All Get to Heaven, As the Deer, Peace Like a River Oxygen…Alabama Jubilee I once asked my mom what her favorite food was. She said, “Smorgasbord.” That’s what we’re having today.. a smorgasbord of talent.
David; You and I. This August… The life of King David.. Maybe my favorite person in the Bible. Least likely to be chosen, yet God chose him. Probably made more mistakes than any Bible hero. He committed adultery. He committed murder. He broke promises. Why did God stick with him? Because, despite it all, David wanted so badly to serve God. He desire was pure even if his actions weren’t. Song: near the end of the play. David..now an old man. His wife no longer trusts him. His sons are plotting against him. His entire kingdom is growing impatient. Played in The Maple Leaf Club. Began to write music.. couldn’t publish…couldn’t print ragtime. First two works stolen by his stage manager. Got a lawyer. Got one penny a copy for The Maple Leaf Rag. ..provided him a decent income for the rest of his life. Opera: black leader Booker T. Washington’s dinner at President Roosevelt’s White House in 1901.
