Dave and I (Cerro Gordo.. “probably dead.”)
Read paper to see what I’m doing.. planned to speak.. “Ken Bradbury with his ministry of song.” Oops.
--- A convention of Sr. Citizens last summer. So.. I brought Dave just in case.
My mother’s sister, Alberta.. died four years ago.. funny lady. Note: “You’re always complaining about me being late. Just to please you I left early.” Some have their mothers here today.. for everyone else, this song is for you. When we all Get to Heaven
House filled with music on Sunday morning.. Mom practicing for church and Dad singing…(another song..another key) .. while he was shaving.
I’ve played it before, but Mom’s favorite.. “Just A Closer Walk”
Mothers are often the closest thing to God that we have on earth… So much of what we know about God, we’ve learned from our mother’s and grandmother’s example. Like God… always the one we run to, to have our hurts healed (Dad said to never ride the burros until he got home..Keith and I thought we could handle it.. I ended up in the woven wire fence… Mom fixed me up before Dad got home and for a long, long time I didn’t argue about doing the dishes.) A song Mom taught to me one night in Colorado.. Square Dance Camp.. last song before we went to bed. This Little Light of Mine. Like God… Mom’s can do anything.. chicken pox.. crochet lessons.. messed up ball of yarn… finally gave it to Grandma and went out to play.. it never entered my head that she couldn’t and wouldn’t get it straightened out. Like God… the epitome of trust.. Mom said that when I was a baby, I’d be sitting there quietly in her lap, then suddenly take a leap for the floor.. she never missed me once. What a Friend Like God… Mother’s give us direction.. 3rd grade teacher, directions on wall. My desk: “Up” and “Down.” … think how hurt a mother would be if we didn’t trust her .. think how hurt God can be when we don’t trust him. (played my first piano recital.. Dm Indian Thing.. scared.. Mom said it was good. It never occurred to me not to trust her on that. Mom’s can be trusted.) Like God … Mother’s (and grandmothers) are miracle workers.. Mulberry pie Like God… Mother’s teach us God’s forgiveness… Jobert’s ear.
So many things that you know about God, you learned from the example of your mother. I think I’ve played this song every time I’ve been here but I’m gonna play it again. It sums it all up.. the most important thing that most of our mothers taught us. Victory in Jesus.
