Bud
Bud and Doris Groat thought they retired when they left their Masonry and Stone company in 1974 then the Lord stepped in. Many of you know the details of what was to follow, as the Groats became the founding spirits of Green Pastures. Every building on the campground today is a result of Bud’s skillful hands and Doris’s loving support. In 2002 they retired again, this time to Brownsville, Texas, and on October 28th, 2009, Bud took his final retirement as he went home to the arms of his loving Savior and Lord. Doris continues to live in Texas and appreciates all the prayers and acts of love at Bud’s passing. For those of us who have watched Green Pastures become a spiritual home for thousands, the evidence of Bud’s steady dedication and Doris’s loving devotion are everywhere. Untold numbers of children and adults will meet the Lord, have grown in the Lord, and learn to the love the Lord because Bud and Doris once said “Yes” to God’s call. Words are inadequate in expressing our thanks and love to Bud and Doris. Until we meet him again in glory, we’ll simply let Christ welcome our good friend Bud with His open arms.
