Dylan…
Audrey & Julie… get ideas from audience… improv.. humorous and serious.. That’s Performing.
The reason I’m in the Performing Arts.. it’s the biggest thrill I’ve ever had… entertaining an audience.
Actor/Director/Producer
Actor....written word to life Director...Directs...says “This is how it will be done..” Brings it together... Producer...Brings the money together, hires, fires, etc.
2 kinds of theatre....Live and TV, Commercials & Movies
TV and movies...most money Live Theatre...most fun..a real audience...always different
Travel..must go where shows are...traveling theatre, 20,000 miles per year Stress...learn scripts over night then be perfect.. Often parttime Hard to get work No guarantee job will last...some: one night.
Money: good if you work....80% don’t.
Broadway..live...min $950 per week for non-stars
Movies: $99 per day...extra $485 per day...speaking part
Radio: Me $200 per commercial
Me: disc jockey...minimum wage
Good example: local radio station and TV..the people you see and hear are often lowest paid...highest: technicians and salespeople.
TV...avg: $1,000 per episode for small parts...plus residuals.
But remember: 80% don’t work.
My friend, Rick Hall...on Fox network...and Roseanne... ER…Seinfeld two nights ago..enough to buy a farm and a house in Hollywood...but hasn’t had an offer in two years. Also about Rick...played his show in Chicago..made about $90 a night. Played it in Jacksonville last year....$1200 a night.
less than big time: 6 Flags...auditions Disneyworld auditions
Need education and experience....but mainly experience... Ever watch a TV show and see them list their college degrees in the credits? EXPERIENCE: Every time you do something THAT’S experience.. no matter how small....try out, try out, tryout. Two Triopia Boys: been in a television movie.... Former Triopia girl: lived near the Hollywood TV studios... appeared in crowd scenes at noon hour.
RELATED JOBS: Most available in tech work...lights, sound, scenery, makeup, costumes, etc.
Also: dancers, choreographers, disc jockeys, drama teachers, voice teachers, radio and TV announcers, playwrights, scriptwriters, stage managers, booking agents, etc.
A very tough business... If YOU’RE REALLY SERIOUS: Voice lessons. .singing and speaking, dance lessons, and acting lessons.
IF YOU JUST LIKE IT: Get involved in school and community theatre. Bigger parts and more work. Lots of local places: Where are you From?...(list places) G.P camp
One of the biggest highs you’ll ever get.. Performing for people. I ask seniors...biggest moment of high school career ..always: performing in the play. The thrill of making other people laugh, cry, and think.
A FEW TESTS TO SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT>>> --------walk on, sit, walk off ---------rabbit,cowboy, sandwich, etc. -------- who’s starting it? ---------send out three liars ----------simul-talk -----------line talk
