Lincoln Tales Tall and True - Tracing his rise from prairie state rail-splitter to America’s favorite president this blend of history and humor will attempt to disentangle the man from the myth. Told from the perspective of Austin Gullaher, a childhood friend of Lincoln who once saved his life, Brian “Fox” Ellis steps into character to allow the listeners to step back in time. With more than three hours of Lincoln Tales to choose from this program can focus on his childhood, his career as a lawyer, his presidency or give an overview of his life. This performance can also be tailored for children, adults or an intergenerational evening of family oriented entertainment. This program was originally presented at the Sesquicentennial of Lincoln, Illinois, a town Lincoln surveyed and christened with a watermelon! Brian "Fox" Ellis - Storyteller, Author, Educator Since 1980 Brian "Fox" Ellis has been touring the world as a performer and educator. Through stories and song, myth and poetry, Fox brings the world to your school, library, festival or conference. He is a dynamic performer who, in a warmly entertaining manner, captures what is most life-affirming and beautiful in the human experience. Fox is also a museum consultant who has worked with the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, The Looking for Lincoln Tourism Board, The Field Museum and countless smaller nature centers and historical societies to provide public programming, staff training and to write interdisciplinary curriculum. Fox believes that within each of us is a story to tell. One of his goals is to awaken the tale teller in all of us. He is a keynote speaker and master teacher who provides workshops for students, teachers, parents, clergy, historians and naturalists. Fox is also the author of eight books including, THE WEB at Dragonfly Pond, (DAWN Publications 2006). He is a regular contributor to more than a dozen magazines and the host of a new television pilot, “Tell Me A Story.”

Fox has also presented a wide range of workshops for historical societies, museum volunteers, teachers and students. Here are a few of his favorite topics:

Lincoln Poetry – Lincoln was a poet, a huge fan of Whitman, and his life is inspiration for you to write a few poems of your own! Based on a student poetry contest in Lincoln, Illinois, you will hear a few student winners and explore a wide range of genres from free verse and acrostics, to Whitmanesque list poems and song lyrics!

Lincoln The Lawyer: A Country Bumpkin Or The Highest Paid Lawyer In America? - What can we learn about persuasive writing from Lincoln’s often misunderstood legal career? This participatory workshop will refine your persuasive skills and give you tools for teaching the art of debate.
