IESA Speech..Hitting the High Notes in 2008
8:45- 9:00 am- Rock it, Roll it, and Register as the trio of ladies known as “The IESA Spice Girls” check you in and check you out!
9:00- 9:15 am- The Overture! Our maestro for the day, Nicole Shaefbauer, gets us tuned up for a day of hitting the high notes in speech and dramatics.
9:15- 9:30 am- The Opening Act. The IESA Speech Committee proves once again that if they can do this job, you can too! (Sit back and enjoy what could be their one and only performance.)
9:30- 9:35 am- Fifteen Measures Rest!
9:35- 10:35 am- Opus I New Conductors Only- Maestro Janet Kracht will lead our delightful crop of new speech instructors through the arias and etudes of coaching. It’s like Jazz, Man….A riff on the art of Improv acting by Julie “Who’s Line?” Nelson Make Your Own Music….after standing around in our lobby for years with the Consortium Publishing Company, we’ve finally persuaded Dr. Robert Crowe to step up onto the conductor’s platform. Bob is an author of several children’s books and a nationally-known speaker on writing for kids. He’ll conduct a workshop on writing an original script: “Let the Characters do the Work!”
10:35- 10:40 am- The 2nd Movement (Break!)
10:40- 12:00- Strike up the Band! Here they come! The reason we’re here! Students from around the state will delight us with actual demonstrations of their amazing skills. 12:00- 1:00- Ta-Dah-----------! It’s Lunch! Each section of our IESA “orchestra” will gather for lunch as you meet in your state areas to chew on our medley of “Off the Grill” greats. Each table will have an area number on it. Please sit at your assigned table.
1:00- 2:00 pm- Opus II Composing Your Scenes… A pretty-darned-cool workshop on blocking your contest scenes by Tim Chipman, just back from a year teaching in Latvia. (Who promises to use English during the entire session.) It’s Like Jazz, Man…Improv Workshop reprise- Julie Nelson Ok! Ok! All Together Now! Coaching Chorale Presentations by- Mary Nelson
