Let me make you a proposition… If you buy this, you’ll buy the rest of what I have to tell you… You already have most of what you need to do your job. What holds you back is the other baggage you carry around with you.

If I’ve learned one thing  We can’t do our best until we learn to get rid of what’s holding us back. Leadership is not so much a process of “putting stuff in” as “taking stuff off”.... especially for adults... We’ve spent more time loading it on.

For that past three weeks I’ve awakened at 5:30, arrived at school at 7, taught until 3:30, rehearsed with Jr High speech students until 5, eaten on my way to the theatre, rehearsed a play for three hours, arrived home at 11, prepared for the next day’s classes, and gotten to bed at midnight, then rose and did it again the next day. I didn’t need more knowledge. I didn’t even need more time. What I needed was the ability to get everything else out of my mind but the thing I was working on at the moment.

So: Speech on weight loss… Like: Dr. Dovorkian… “How to lead a long and happy life.”

Friendships don’t have to simply be things that happen...They can be created... I hope you have a support group among you colleagues. Nuture friends who encourage you. Who take joy in your joy. Even if you must go outside your own faculty.

And the best way to do this is to become an encourager yourself. I do theatre. Impossible theatre… 112 in cast in a school of 160 kids. We’ll be sold out to 2800 people.. I must surround myself with people who tell me how we can accomplish this… not why we can’t. How do I find these people? I find talented people and encourage them. To be encouraged, you must become an encourager.

We invest.

Please....please, drop the chains of stress and worry that you hang around your neck.
