Fishhook UB Church Wildwood Camp
Feel a bit out of place.. you already have a wonderful communicator Mark Mrs. Kurfman said that they wanted me to speak to show their appreciation to Mark . I guessz You’ll appreciate him more after hearing me.
David. .basketti Bummy
They asked me to fill the 10 until noon spot. Realize: I’m a Presbyterian. We don’t do ANYTHING that lasts for two hours.
Spent many hours haying for Ab Drake trying to get a look at what went on at the Girl Scout Camp.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
I propose to you… serving the Lord in your house is not so much doing things as dropping things.
The longer I serve the Lord, the more I realize that being Christ-like is more important to God than doing things.
Me: Talk to you about weight loss… Like: Dr. Dovorkian… “How to lead a long and happy life.”
LET ME TALK TO YOU ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT... The WEIGHTS THAT HOLD US BACK AS CHRISTIAN FATHERS AND MOTHERS AND CHILDREN.
Let me give you a list of resolutions FOR HAVING A GODLY FAMILY. Things we all need to lose. This is a smorgasbord … take what you like and leave the rest.
- To Serve the Lord with Gladness, DON’T REHASH THE NEGATIVE
Our teacher’s lounge For once, don’t get if off your chest Teacher I know..kids drive her crazy.. ..meet her in IGA...guess what she talks about...
Corrie Ten Boom “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorry, It empties today of its strength.” To lose weight, skip your morning calisthenics. Every morning I do calisthenics... The Lord not only forgives, He forgets. That’s the easy part. The hard part is OUR forgetting… forgiving and forgetting in the family.
Stop rehashing the Negative. Lose the ability to remember.
- Realize that no matter what happens to you today, YOU (with God’s help) are still the one who determines how the day will go. J. Stephens...taught, sold, taught. whistles and sings... Mom: Alcatraz Billy Graham: You can never have authority over your enemies as long as they’re upsetting you.
- If life’s bumming you out, chances are you aren’t giving enough of yourself. This is the opposite of what the self-help books preach. Self Help Books: Take care of yourself. Be good to yourself. You don’t have to say yes to everyone. Christ: Give until it hurts. Give until you drop. Give. Self-centeredness : depression. Becky...funeral... Carl Menninger JHS girl: CFS
A. Sweitzer: “The only ones among you who will be truly happy as those who will have sought and found out how to serve.” If life is bumming you out because you’re asked to give so much, give more.
- Collect Interesting and enthusiastic people Paul: “Be ye Encouragers of one another….”
Marie...salt and pepper shakers.
Friendships don’t have to simply be things that happen...They can be created... I hope you have a support group among your friends. Me: Rick. Even Christian friends are sometimes tough to deal with. Sharing too often becomes gossip. Nurture friends who encourage you. Who take joy in your joy.
Tony Compello “Five years from now you’ll be pretty much the same as you are now except for two things: The books you’ve read and the people you’ve met.”
And the best way to do this is to become an encourager yourself. I do theatre. Impossible theatre… 112 in cast in a school of 160 kids. We’ll be sold out to 2800 people.. I must surround myself with people who tell me how we can accomplish this… not why we can’t.
architect Johnstone: (Charlie Rose show) 90 years old. Hottest place in hell for whiners and complainers ..... “If life were 100 times longer, there would still excuse for every getting bored by it.” Cultivate friends who are not bored by life. Be Ye an encourager and develop friends who encourage you.
- Don’t get so busy with the important things in your life that you forget the important things in your life. James Dobson ..monopoly Dad...hay ...rain....
- Choose carefully whom you try to please. Quest...Inner-Outer Self HINEY THE MULE
Please God…… and let God please man.
- Lighten up.... Jim Kern...MRS. BROWN
In his letter to the Philippians, Paul wrote: Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Rejoice. Rejoice. Rejoice!
Sometimes it’s merely a matter of changing our language. TenEyck.. Screaming Eagle.. Praise God!
PHYSCIAL CHECKUP... Illinois Power
LIGHTEN UP.... ....go barefoot more often ....turn off the TV some night and pull taffy. ...eat nothing but ice cream for a whole day. ...wear underwear backwards...will break into uncontrollable giggles for no reason every time you think about it. ....walk up to biggest grouch you know and say “I just want you to know that I feel great!” It’ll throw them off all day. ...do some serious coloring ....get the Mark to serve pizza at the next communion. ...start living to succeed instead of fearing failure... ...break the dress code occasionally. (ME: no socks. Mom)
.....McDonnald’s “Have a nice Day” Why? Recent church service. 18th Cent. hymns. 17th century architecture. 16th cent order of worship. Scriptures translated by an English King in the 1600’s. Sermon that I could not follow. Prayer requests: What can we do about getting the youth more interested in church?
3 things in life are real...WHEN YOU’RE BORN, WHEN YOU DIE WHEN YOU MAKE ACCEPT CHRIST AS YOUR SAVIOR. in everything else...LIGHTEN UP.
- Don’t take yourself too seriously.. chances are, no one else does.
Chillochothe...”probably dead”
Church lady...music at her funeral.
Jeff W...Free Spirit..Robbed and tied.
Travel Lighter...Your anxieties? Look in your purse or pocket or billfold...ME: comb.
Roger Ebert.
- Start living in the present. Jesus Christ is Lord of the present. He forgets yesterday and tomorrow is in His hands. I’ve taught thousands of kids over the years, including summer workshops in self-esteem. I’ve talked to audiences of adults in tough situations: Caterpillar management and labor during their strike. At North Greene during their last teachers strike. As a result, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about success and what it means. I’ve known hugely successful people. ONE CONCLUSION: Success in life boils down to one thing... love. Success boils down to loving what you do and loving the people around you. The ability to live in the present. Some of you during my speech have been thinking about how long...., tomorrow, this weekend. When you drive home from this retreat, enjoy the moment you’re in.
New Salem Friday night.. turn out the lights and look at the moon.
As Americans, our live is so filled with “things” that we seldom leave time to enjoy where we are and what we’re doing. Christ gives us strength for today. He says that tomorrow will take care of itself. He says to forget about yesterday. Put your hand to the plow and don’t look back. Dad didn’t like that idea. I plowed out too much corn.
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD OF THE PRESENT.
- Invest something that counts in your family. Make this deal with yourself. For every minute you spend worrying about things, spend a minute praying my them. Atheist? Hire a nice Baptist widow to do your praying for you. We spend our life investing... Today’s paper... girl: Miss Illinois pageant... I know: Mom and Dad: $7,000 each to get as far as Springfield. We invest.
Investment clubs are now big. I know a lady who will cancel everything. Beardstown lady… been on Today show three times. “This is just a show. Really, I just pray.”
Billy Graham… two ladies.
Please....please, drop the chains of stress and worry that you hang around your neck. No one in your entire community makes a greater impact on our future than the Christian family. Keep it up. Please. Please.
If the kids are the hope for tomorrow, then you are the hope for our kids.
Last year: teachers’ lounge… Dana Worrall.
I sang at the UB church in grade school at your Sunday School convention. My Grandma Orr never missed one. So many people are in heaven today because they met Jesus Christ at Fishhook.. and Perry.. and Baylis. Somewhere on a California beach today, a little girl, because Grandma…
Keep up the good work… Continue to lift up the name of Jesus Christ.
