(singing) Oh well-a listen Son, now it can’t be done if a poor country boy can’t do it.

SOLOIST ONE: Like a buck in rut, he can show his stuff if he …..Puts his mind to it. SOLOIST TWO: You can run him all day, but there ain’t no way you can keep him from runnin’ through it. ALL: If I can’t be done, that son-of-gun, he’s gonna have some fun and just do it.

JOSH: Oh well there ain’t no doubt that you can spit it out if you ain’t man enough to chew it. SOLOIST ONE: And if you get my goat, well that is all she wrote because…Son, you just blew it! SOLOIST TWO: When the others run I’ll get the business done before they even get to it. ALL: While the others say that there ain’t no way, well a country boy’ll just do it!

(bridge) Well I can work all day to the hum-a, hum-a, hummin’ of ummmm …. my car. Then I can rock and roll all night long to the rhythm of a …steel guitar And there’s still enough left to knock the hair off your chest when the fightin’ has begun… Well, I’m a rock…I’m on a roll…I’m gonna knock ….A little hole Well, I’m completely out of control, but I”ll get done! (dance) CALEB: Oh well, my Mama said, You’re gonna wind up dead because you tend to overdo it. JOSH: But my Daddy claimed to never be ashamed to put your heart…into it. SOLOIST: Well I was so confused a-thinkin’ what’s the use? I might as well just jump into it! ALL: If it can’t be done, I’ll be a son-of-gun, gonna have some fun and just do it. (bridge) Well I can work all day to the hum-a, hum-a, hummin’ of ummmm …. my car. Then I can rock and roll all night long to the rhythm of a …steel guitar And there’s still enough left to knock the hair off your chest when the fightin’ has begun… Well, I’m a rock…I’m on a roll…I got the stuff ….so help my soul (as the others do their musical “Oop, Doo-Wap” softly in the background, Josh brings Caleb and Dooley close)

JOSH: Boys, you can do it.

DOOLEY: I’m powerful scared, Josh.

JOSH: The Old Man says just be strong and courageous. Caleb?

CALEB: How about a second opinion?

JOSH: Just wait on the Old Man, don’t get ahead of him, boys.

DOOLEY: But…

JOSH: (with growing intensity as the musical beat doubles) Strong and courageous! Strong, Caleb! Courageous, Dooley! Come on! You got it in ya! Come on now! Come on now!

CALEB: Well I’m a rock! JOSH: Come on now! DOOLEY: I’m on a roll! JOSH: Come on now! CALEB: I got the stuff! OTHERS: Come on now! DOOLEY: So help my soul! OTHERS: Come on now! CALEB: Well I’m a rock! CALEB & DOOLEY: Well, I’m completely out of control, ALL: ….but I”ll/We’ll get done!
